IN LOVE WITH: YELLOW NEON DRESSES...

I’m in love with the neon trend at the moment- especially with yellow dresses. They are really eye-catching and summery. Julianne Hough and Jennifer Lopez look amazing in theirs.

Currently on my wish list for when the weather is a bit better is this bargain dress (£10.95) from a independent fashion retailer on Ebay.

I come into the plus-size fashion category. I’ve gone between a size 20 and a size 12 three times in the past 8 years. Therefore, I have lots of lumps and bumps that I like to keep hidden and sucked in; both to make me feel better and more in control of my body, and to look more aesthetically pleasing. Neon yellow isn’t the most disguising of shades, so my Magisculpt Plunge Bodyshaper from Marisota’s shapewear underwear range will be keeping everything in place.

Bring on the sunshine!

BEAUTY REVIEW: BIONSEN DEODORANTS

Bionsen are mineral deodorants made with Japanese spa minerals (Zinc, Copper and Manganese; which are long-considered to have health-giving properties). These deodorants are aluminium-free. Basically, anti-pespirants use aluminium salts to block sweat glands to stop you sweating; whereas deodorants allow you to sweat but prevent odours by killing the bacteria. Bionsen did not want to include any chemicals which prevent the body’s natural processes i.e. by blocking glands.

It is a natural safe deodorant, and also free of parabens; so it can be used on even the most sensitive skin. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now, and both the spray and the roll-on leave me smelling fresh all day.

It’s great that they are really affordable too. You can pick the range up in Morrisons supermarkets nationwide.

WHAT I'M EATING: PERSONALISED CAKE IN THE POST FROM BAKERDAYS.COM

image

image

After a hard day last week, I came home to a package of a gorgeous (and heavenly smelling) cake with my blog logo on it from bakerdays.com.

image

It looked so pretty that I didn’t want to cut it; but once I did, the yummy chocolate chip sponge with vanilla icing was gone in an afternoon.

image

The chocolate sponge was moist and packed with white chocolate chips. Under the icing, the sponge was covered in creamy milk chocolate too. I also liked that the cake came in a nice tin that I can keep- it would make a great gift for anyone. On bakerdays.com there are a variety of sponges you can choose from if chocolate chip isn’t your bag.

Cakes are priced from £14.99 each. Would it be wrong to order myself one?

This is a sponsored post, paid for by lovemyvouchers.co.uk; although the content and opinions are my own.

I want to treat my Mum to some lovely gifts and experiences this Mother’s Day, and like everyone, I love to get it as cheap as I can. When I was introduced to lovemyvouchers.co.uk, a online UK site that collects all the voucher codes for my favourite shops and restaurants in one place, I knew this was going to be my go-to place from now on.

Here are some of my favourite Mother’s Day discounts at the moment (and what i’ll be treating my own Mum to). To get the codes, all you have to do is visit lovemyvouchers.co.uk:

BEAUTY REVIEW: THE BODY SHOP COLOUR CRUSH EYESHADOWS

The Body Shop have brought out a new range of single eyeshadows for S/S13 called Colour Crush. There are 30 shades from neutrals to bright colours, and with different finishes.

image

I’ve been trying two of the shades- Blue Over You, and Chat-Up Lime (great name!).

They are strongly pigmented, blend really well, and can be used wet or dry.

Each of the single eyeshadows are available for £7 each from The Body Shop stores nationwide.

BEAUTY REVIEW: e.l.f NAIL VARNISH

I recently made my first purchase from affordable make-up brand e.l.f. There were two gorgeous looking pastel nail varnish shades in the sale at just £1 each- Mint Green and Lilac (which are still available)- and I just had to have them, as I adore the current Spring trend for candy-coloured nails.

I was keen to try them; and at £1 each, they couldn’t go far wrong. The colours are pretty; but unfortunately you do get what you pay for. Even their standard price of £2.50 is a lot lower than the likes of my favourite nail varnish brands like O.P.I. So when they seemed quite watered down in comparison, and required a couple of very thick coats to get any solid colour, I wasn’t that surprised. Still, when you do this, and seal them with a good quality clear topcoat, you do get a nice finish.

There is quite a selection of colours in the sale at the moment, so if you want to experiment with some shades that you’ve never tried before, then take advantage of the £1 offer; but otherwise (at £2.50 each), i’d just pay a bit more for a brand of a better quality.

BEAUTY REVIEW: KHROMA BEAUTY KIM'S KARDAZZLE FACE PALETTE

Firstly, I must point out that I adore the Kardashians; so they could probably bring out anything and i’d rave about it. However, I do genuinely like this palette, and think it is a great handbag essential.

It’s a small and solid palette with a pretty silver snakeskin print on it. There are 3 of these palettes- one for each of the sisters’ favourite and best-suited shades.

The one i’m reviewing here is Kim Kardashian’s, and is mainly a blue and grey-based eye palette with a pink blusher, gentle bronzer and a handy highlighter.

The colours are pigmented to a good standard, and you can easily build the intensity up for a stronger look if you desire. They are easy to blend too; which is good.

It’s available for 16.50 Euros at www.khromabeauty.eu.

IN LOVE WITH: JOHN ROCHA A/W13…

Dublin-based, Hong Kong-born, John Rocha showed his A/W13 collection on Saturday at London Fashion Week, and I love the delicate feminine fabrics of lace, ruffles and crochet he has used; along with the injection of colours usually confined to Spring and Summer. The collection was inspired by the landscape and colours of County Wicklow in Ireland.

IN LOVE WITH: PPQ A/W13…

Last week PPQ showed their A/W13 collection at London Fashion Week. I adore these bright colour pop coats that will add a touch of sunshine into the dull Autumn and Winter weather.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: NAILS INC X VODAFONE COLLABORTION

Nails Inc have teamed up with iconic red mobile phone network (and principal sponsor of London Fashion Week) Vodafone to launch a nail polish in their famous colour.

The face of the collaboration is Made In Chelsea's Millie Mackintosh, and she said "The Vodafone Red is a signature colour, and really works as a classic nail polish. It’s a great way for Vodafone to celebrate fashion and reward their VIP customers. I’d recommend all the busy fashionistas grab a bottle".

The polish is only available for a limited time. You can pick it up at the Nails Inc London stores on South Molton St and Canary Wharf from 21st to 28th February; plus Vodafone VIP customers can get a free bottle from a specially commissioned vending machine at Vodafone London Fashion Weekend at Somerset House next weekend.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: KATE SPADE NEW YORK A/W13…

I’m in love with Kate Spade’s A/W13 collection that just had a 20th Anniversary presentation at New York Fashion Week.

Colour was everywhere- bright pops of neon usually confined to Spring & Summer make up the collection, and set to make Autumn and Winter some very cheery seasons this year.

I love the mix of the mustard yellow with pastel yellow, and the bright tweed jacket; whilst the donut jumper is top of my wish list.

IN LOVE WITH DUNE’S S/S13 CAMPAIGN…

How amazing are Dune’s new campaign imagery!? They capture Summer perfectly. The monochrome sports luxe clothing puts the focus firmly on the shoes and their pops of bright colour. I adore the red, white and black colour block t-bar sandals.

The campaign for shot in Cape Town in South Africa by photographer Elisabeth Hoff, and styled to perfection by Pip Edwards.

It makes me want to get my body beach ready to do these stunning shoes justice!

WIN £50 TO SPEND AT FASHION WORLD

A chance for you as my reader to win £50 to spend…

I was invited by Fashion World, along with 4 other blogs, to take part in their Valentine’s Day outfit design blogger competition. We had to put together a date outfit using items only from the Claire Sweeney Collection at Fashion World.

I found this a difficult task as the collection is small, and it was tricky to come up with a look that is different from the ideas already given on the site. However, I did come up with a look that I like, and this is it:

image

The first stage of the competition is now closed (which was commenting below), and now the second stage is open. For another chance to win £50 to spend at Fashion World, you need to visit the Fashion World Facebook page and vote for me LAURA; giving me the chance to win the outfit I put together and you £50! So from 18th February (until 28th February), if you can hop over to Facebook and vote for me (LAURA) there, that would be fabulous.

BEAUTY REVIEW: MRS WHITE'S LEGS IN THE AIR

Yes, this product has a funny name! It’s a cooling chocolate and peppermint treat for legs and feet, and is aimed at long-haul flight passengers; but you can use it anytime obviously.

It stimulates circulation, cools and adds a lovely sheen to your legs. So, it’s perfect for those having to sit in the one place for extended periods of time.

It comes out of the bottle as quite a dark brown; but turns almost clear when applied and rubbed in. You do get only a very minute hint of a tint; but what it does do is give your legs a lovely sheen. Most importantly, it is lovely and refreshing, and good for helping (along with regular movement) to aid circulation on long-haul flights. It’s a small enough bottle (50ml) to take in your cabin baggage also.

Mrs White’s Legs In The Air is available for £10 from www.roullierwhite.com.

IN LOVE WITH: TED BAKER FILLEY WILD HORSES PRINTED CAPE…

How amazing is this horse print cape from Ted Baker?! I love wearing light capes and kimonos as they are easy cover-ups, and can brighten up a simple vest top and leggings. I’m heading straight out to get this one! You can wear it as both a cape and folded as a scarf too.

£99 from www.tedbaker.com and www.asos.com.

WHAT'S IN MY HANDBAG

I’ve been enjoying some blog posts recently that have been a peek inside people’s handbags; so I thought i’d share mine.

The bag I am carrying today is my large Gucci gold tote. It’s circa 2002, and I got it in Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh. Sadly I don’t know the name of the bag or the Gucci collection it was from but I think it was around £795 in price; so if you can identify it, let me know!

I am obsessed with Lulu Guinness’ creations, and I love this purse from her A/W11 collection. It’s her couture shop design, and is so cute. I got this from Harrods in one of London’s airports- I think Heathrow.

I keep my own business cards handy and clean in this Louis Vuitton card holder in their classic print. I got this in the Louis Vuitton shop in Multrees Walk in Edinburgh about 8 years ago, along with the matching Louis Vuitton Filofax which I purchased at the same time.

I don’t use this as a diary etc; but as a notebook. Inside I also keep a little Lulu Guinness notepad; which I don’t think are made anymore. They used to sell stationary in the Ellis Street London store many years ago, and I bought a few then. When i’m travelling, I use this filofax to keep my passport and tickets etc safe.

My diary is one that has a double page per week to separate personal and business appointments. It’s from Ktwo Products, and you can get them in National Trust gift shops.

This hairbrush used to be my Mum’s when she was a girl. It’s about 40 years old, and is THE BEST hairbrush that I have ever used. It’s just plain wood. I have no idea who made it or where it was bought.

I also carry a personal attack alarm in my handbag which I take out and wear if I deem it necessary. I also always carry a L’Occitane hand cream in my bag too, and this Lavender one of theirs is my favourite at the moment.

I hope you enjoyed the peek inside my handbag!
