SITE OF THE WEEK: HARRODS.COM

imageHarrods’ website is the site this week that i’ve been constantly adding gorgeous items to the shopping basket on; trying the decide whether to let my credit card take the hit. I’m just unable to resist some of their gorgeous accessories!

imageI’m loving their Marc Jacobs handbags. The pastel Marc by Marc Jacobs Take Me Tote (£200), and the neon yellow Too Hot To Handle Crossbody Bag (£260) are the perfect Spring/Summer bags.

imageI want just about all of the Alexander McQueen scarves too; especially the gorgeous Bee Skull Print Scarf (£350). It’s a great Summer twist on their iconic skull scarves

BEAUTY REVIEW: BENEFIT WORLD FAMOUS NEUTRALS- SEXIEST NUDES EVER

image

I love the Benefit Cosmetics’ World Famous Neutrals eyeshadow kits. My favourite is the Sexiest Nudes Ever one- a lilac and silver based collection.

image

image

As with all three of the kits, Sexiest Nudes Ever contains 4 powder eyeshadows and 2 cream eyeshadows. This one has lilac, silver, white and a darker purple; along with cream-coloured and black metallic cream shadows.

image

They look great both dry and wet, are easily blendable and are perfect for creating a delicate Spring smokey eye. My favourite tip is to apply the dry silver shadow on top of the black metallic cream to get a really intense silver look.

The kits are available from Benefit counters nationwide and online for £23.50.

BEAUTY REVIEW: O.P.I X OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Anyone who reads this blog will know i’ve made no secret of my love for Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful movie. Team that with one of my most favourite nail varnish brands, and you have a winning combination for me.

The Oz The Great and Powerful O.P.I collection is a lot different in terms of colour choice than I thought it would be. I would have loved a sparkly green for the Emerald City. Instead, the Emerald City inspired polish is a delicate white and silver glitter called ‘Lights Of The Emerald City’. It’s gorgeous, and an amazing topcoat; just not the colour I would have expected to go with that name.

To show the polish to you, i’ve used my Mum’s nails this time (as I had Shellac on mine). The base polish colour is another from the collection- a very light pink called ‘I Theodora You’; which again seems a strange name choice to me as Theodora’s signature colour in the film is red. The polish itself, however, is great; and it makes an excellent base for a french manicure too.

In this photo, she’s got two coats of ‘I Theodora You, and one coat of the gently sparkling ‘Lights Of The Emerald City’.

The Oz O.P.I collection is available from John Lewis for £11.50 each.

BEAUTY REVIEW: YON-KA LAIT NETTOYANT CLEANSING MILK

French skincare brand Yon-Ka describes itself as phyto-aromatic care. Basically, this means its products are designed to restore the skin’s natural ability to balance itself. It takes its science and its scents very seriously; saying that its products smells should transport you on a blissful journey of wellbeing.

This cleansing milk does smell great- with its delicate floral scent; and the consistency is very light. It’s great as a daily gentle cleanser just massaged in with your fingers and rinsed; but it is an excellent easy make-up remover too if you wipe with cotton pads. It has been leaving my skin feeling very silky soft and deeply cleansed after using it; which I love.

Yon-Ka Cleansing Milk is available for £30 from www.harmonie-beauty.co.uk.

BEAUTY REVIEW: EXPRESS SHELLAC AT ZEN LIFESTYLE, EDINBURGH

image

Last week I was invited to an event at the newly refurbished Zen Lifestyle spa on Teviot Place in Edinburgh for a Shellac manicure (£28).

image

I’ve never had Shellac done on my nails before; but don’t know why, as i’m constantly moaning about nail polish chipping as soon as i’ve put it on! Shellac is basically a super-shine semi-permanent nail colour that will last for over two weeks without chipping or fading. Zen Lifestyle uses CND Shellac polishes, and I chose a nice nude shade which the manicurist was wearing.

image

First, a base coat was applied and then dried with the CND UV lamp (which dries and sets Shellac polishes). Then two coats of the colour were applied and dried under the UV light. Finally a top coat was put on, and after a final go under the UV nail lamp, I was ready to go. It looked perfect, and now, 6 days later, it is still exactly as it was in the salon. I’m definitely impressed and will be returning for it again; but I think i’ll go for a brighter more braver colour next time.

The salon itself looks fantastic. The theme is purple and white, and it is very spacious and airy. Upstairs is a relaxing reception and treatment room, and downstairs is their brow bar and some more treatment rooms. They offer such a huge range of treatments and procedures; which can be found on their website if you fancy giving yourself a treat.

WHAT I'M EATING: MOTHER INDIA, GLASGOW

This has been one of my favourite places for weekend lunches for quite some time. They do a great lunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays that’s AMAZING value!

£10.95 gets you a starter and a main course (with rice or a naan bread), and there’s none of that reducing the portion sizes that you get in other restaurants with their lunch and set menus- these are full, stomach-filling portions that will leave you feeling perfectly stuffed. Everything is freshly made too.

I always have the delicious Mushroom Poori (delicately spiced mushrooms and chick peas in poori bread) to start; followed by Butter Chicken (huge chicken breast chunks in a rich creamy sauce). It tasted, and looked delicious, as did the other chicken and lamb dishes that my fellow diners had.

I can’t wait until I have the time to get back there again!

IN LOVE WITH: CUTEY SHAMBALLA BRACELETS

image

I love my new Cutey shamballa bracelets that I was kindly sent. I love shamballa style jewellery and have a few rings and bracelets already. They are glitzy and casual (with the rope) at the same time.

image

These ones from Cutey (£18.99 each) are great quality and really sturdy. I’ve barely taken the gold one off. It goes with just about everything.

What do you think of this style of jewellery?

IN LOVE WITH: 'THE GREAT GATSBY' 1920s STYLE

New character posters have just been released for upcoming film The Great Gatsby, and they give even more insight into the stunning 1920s-style beauty and costumes. I love the style of this era- it’s so dainty and pretty.

I even went for a 20s look for my wedding back in 2009!

The Great Gatsby is released in the UK this summer.

BEAUTY REVIEW: CHINA GLAZE 'RAZZLE ME DAZZLE ME' NAIL VARNISH

I love China Glaze’s glitter polishes as they are always packed full of sparkle and of great quality.

Razzle Me Dazzle Me (£9.75 from Beauty Bay) is my current favourite. It’s full of tiny black and silver glitter particles (like the current trend of speckled imperfection top coats), larger specks of round silver glitter and little long strips of black.

It looks great as a top coat; but is also really good as a polish on its own- a few coats will completely pack the nail surface with glitter. I’ve used mine here as a top coat on Barry M’s Hi-Shine Gelly in Papaya (which I wasn’t that impressed with on its own- nothing special).

China Glaze’s Razzle Me Dazzle Me is, to me, a must-have addition to anyone’s nail varnish collection.

BEAUTY REVIEW: BIODERMA SENSIBIO H2O MICELLAR SOLUTION

Ok, so i’m a bit late to the Bioderma party; but I just had to post a review of this once i’d tried this famous beauty favourite. My little bottle (£4.50 from escentual.com) will quickly be swapped for a big one!

French skincare brand Bioderma are really clued up on the science and BIOlogy of their products; which are designed to treat and recover healthy skin rather than just temporarily hiding the skin problem. Their ranges are all developed for different skin types. Sensibio is specially formulated for sensitive skin.

The first micellar water, Sensibio H2O, is a very mild cleansing solution that contains skin soothing and pore decongesting ingredients to get rid of impurities without drawing the moisture out your skin. It takes off make-up really well, and leaves your skin feeling lovely and refreshed.

All you have to do is soak a cotton pad in the solution and wipe over face and neck; without rinsing afterwards with any water.

After you’ve tried this product it will become your go-to cleanser and make-up remover. My bathroom will never be without a bottle now!

You can pick up the mini 100ml bottles for £4.50 from escentual.com.

IN LOVE WITH: CATWALK GLAMOUR EMERALD ICON RING

Big statement rings are my favourite jewellery, and are sometimes all the jewellery I wear.

This Icon ring (£20; but on sale at moment for £10) from Catwalk Glamour is my current favourite as I adore the huge emerald-coloured crystal. It’s chunky and heavy too- just how I like my rings.
