Last week I popped along to the A/W13 Debenhams Press Show to see their fashion offerings for the new seasons, and some of the amazing Christmas beauty gifts that are coming out soon.

The event took place in Glasgow’s luxury five-star Blythswood Square hotel, where we browsed the beauty room with cocktails before enjoying a fashion show upstairs.

I thought i’d share with you some of my favourite pieces. Apologies for the quality of the photography- the lighting was really poor in the venue…

I adore this Benefit Cosmetics set, and it’s now on my Christmas list. It’s in such a cute tin instead of the normal cardboard range they have. It contains deluxe samples of They’re Real, Benetint and Porefessional plus Dandelion blusher and four eyeshadows.

I also love these tartan stilettos with ‘punk’ buckle straps from Red Herring, and this cute heart print cream jumper also from Red Herring that’s just perfect for Christmas Day.

Ooo, it’s been a week of lovely new accessories. I got a gorgeous grey silk scarf (£38.50, and a beautiful pair of red wedges (£85, DUO Boots).

I adore scarves, and have such a big collection. I love wearing them with a black suit jacket, vest top and leggings or jeans. This new one is so soft, and has delicate beading around the edges and some felt circle detailing.

I’ve been wearing the red wedges around the house, and they are so comfy. I’m saving their outing for a wedding next month. I don’t normally do wedges as I find them difficult to walk in and too high. I was so excited when I found these low wedges and it just feels like I am wearing flats! They are such high quality and will last me ages.

Rockateur is Benefit’s latest addition to their collection of boxed powders; this time offering a shimmering rose gold that highlights your cheekbones perfectly whilst offering a flush of colour.

There has been a lot of talk about this product containing a lot less grams of powder compared to Benefit’s other blushers, but still retailing at the same price of £23.50. The official line is that it is because of the texture/formula of the rose gold shimmer element, and also the carving of the word ‘Rock’ on the surface. To be honest, I don’t care- it’s a high quality blusher with minimal fallout that looks amazing on your skin and looks super-cool in its packaging. This, combined with the mirror and little brush (which is good for highlighting your cheekbones) makes it more than worth the price.

Rock on Benebabes!

I was first introduced to the Isle of Skye Candle Company in 2012 when I was nominated opposite them for Best New Company in the Scottish Variety Awards for Twinkle Style & Travel Magazine. They won, and I can see why.

Last Christmas they sent me their Sleep Sensation candle (from £7.99) at the magazine for a feature we were doing. I’ve been keeping myself stocked up with them ever since. I just bought my latest this morning from Wholefoods as I finished the last of one last night. It is an amazing scent of Lavender, Grapefruit and Tea Tree; and it sends me into a peaceful sleep.

I burn it for 30 minutes on my bedside table as i’m reading my book in bed at night, and it fills the room with its calming scent.
Just make sure you blow it out before you fall asleep!

Last week I took delivery of a new pillow for my bed. The Ultimate Hungarian Goose Down Pillow (£70) to be exact.

It is the epitome of luxury and comfort. Thick and semi-firm. It moulds to your head, and you literally just sink into it. All my other pillows have ended up scattered on the floor around my bed, as this new one is just heaven.

It is such amazing quality, with the stitching and ribbon detailing round the edges. I got the Superking size, and it is just slightly too big to fit in a normal pillowcase as a bit sticks out the end; but when i’ve got comfort like this i’m not complaining!

It’s time to start thinking of our post-Summer clothing, and I am loving high-end fashion site Avenue 32. They stock a wide range of designers, and my favourite collection on the site at the moment is the Giles Pre-Fall 2013 collection. Think punk rock. It’s pretty with an edge.

For Pre-Fall 2013 Giles looks at the sartorial crossroads between proper and peculiar, and is particularly inspired by the cult British fetish magazine AtomAge. Patterns which appear to be polka dots are actually the ventilators of fetish masks, camouflage jacquard dresses are given a latex-like shine, and floor-sweeping frocks are given a subversive twist.

I’ve put together my pick of the best of this collection by Giles Deacon….

A personal post today! I’m not sure why i’m feeling keen to bring this to you today. Probably continued annoyance at that idiot Katie Hopkins. I want to talk about struggling with weight.
I was very surprised when I entered the fashion and beauty industry, and started the digital title Twinkle Style & Travel Magazine, just how accepting of overweight people it was. The media portrays the fashion and beauty industry as being all about a stick thin figure; but i’ve been welcolmed amongst equally overweight people without a second glance.
I am overweight, and i’m sure by medical definition, obese. Do I want to be this weight? No. I like the way I look more when I am slimmer. Have I tried to do something about it? Yes. I’ve gone from a size 20 to a size 12 three times in the past eight years. Comfort eating puts the weight back up again. I’ve tried personal trainers, hypnotists, psychologists, Alli, Weight Watchers, Power Plate…the list goes on. Nothing, however, has been able to take away my severe anxiety disorder and depression. Even with my psychiatrist-prescribed medication which keeps me more or less on an even keel, the only thing that helps comfort me in difficult situations is food.
Now, I could just force myself to not eat the cake. Or at least only eat one slice of it instead of the whole thing; and sometimes I manage. But when my mood is so so low, or I am incredibly anxious, that cake helps. People call anxiety ‘butterflies’. Well imagine them being 20-stone butterflies with hammers and swords, and you should get the idea. The feeling of a full stomach eases the feeling of anxiety. At least it’s not illegal drugs or cigarettes that are my crutch.
I guess what i’m trying to say is that there are more reasons for being overweight than people (and the ignorant Katie Hopkins) thinks. It’s not always about just being lazy and greedy…

On Sunday, I spent some time in the sun at Benefit Cosmetics’ fun fair Benefayre in Glasgow’s St.Enoch Square. It was in aid of fantastic charity Refuge that seeks to stop and raise awareness of domestic violence, and support women affected by domestic violence.

A mini fun fair was set up. You give a Refuge charity donation to get in, and in return you get cute little Benefit tokens to play the games, get a snack and have a makeover.

There were four games- Porefessional’s shoot down the lemons to win a deluxe sample and the Benefit Spygirl Marvel comic; They’re Real’s hoopla with giant mascara wands to win travel size They’re Real samples, and if you hooped three, a Benefit make-up bag; and a hook-the-duck to win Bad Gal travel mascara samples. There was also Stay Flawless’ knock down the foundation cans to win Cha Cha tint samples, or if you knocked all 5 down at once, an amazing Stay Flawless mirror.

It was a lot of fun, and I came away with a Stay Flawless mirror (yes!), some samples, a comic and a gift of a Porefessional umbrella. I also ate some rather lovely candyfloss…

If you were unable to get to a Benefayre; but still want to donate some money to Refuge, you can visit Benefit’s Just Giving page here.

This weekend on 10th & 11th August, Benefayre will be in Cardiff at St.David’s Square. Get down there

I have had the worst virus-y flu-y thing for the past week. I’ve had the worst headaches, nausea, temperature spikes; but have still had to get out and get some work done.
When at home though, i’ve been living in my bed and this is what has been making me feel a tad better…

M&S Great British Summer Victoria Sponge £1.86
Seriously, this is THE best cake ever. It tastes like it has just come out the oven. It’s so fresh, and the raspberry jam is such good quality and sour next to the ultra sweet and creamy buttercream. You do not want to know how many of these I have eaten! Being ill has given me a ‘get out of jail free’ card on my diet this week.

The Kris Jenner Show on YouTube, £Free
Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner has her own Fox network daily talkshow in the US now, and they broadcast every show on YouTube so that we can watch in other countries. You all know how much I worship this family, and this show is such fun with its gossip, food, and fashion.

Revenge Wears Prada (The Devil Returns) by Lauren Weisberger, £7.99
This has been my novel this week. It’s the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada, and it was a can’t-put-down read. I have been so devastated that i’ve finished it as I could have kept reading forever. Ten years after her time as Miranda Priestly’s assistant at Runway magazine, Andy is finally free of that woman. Then, she pops up again…

Ebinary Ltd White 16-Inch Oscillating Pedestal Stand Fan, £19.27
I bought this fan a few weeks ago from Amazon, and it has literally saved my life this week. I don’t think i’d have slept at all without it. It is amazing and such good value for less than £20!

Eve Lom Dynaspot has been my go-to ‘spot killer’ for a few months now, and a permanent staple on my bedside cabinet. If I feel a spot coming, or one has appeared that day, I just pop some on top of it at bedtime, and by the morning it has dried up.

Eve Lom Dynaspot is a topical treatment that contains the anti-bacterial Tea Tree and the fast-drying Salicylic Acid. It also has Chamomile to soothe, Fennel to remove toxins and quicken skin recovery and Yarrow extracts to calm inflamed skin- all powerful ingredients in combating dreaded spots.

It can be worn during the day too, either under or over make-up (as it has a universal skin tone tint). I can’t recommend this product highly enough. It works wonders fast, and is even in a handy handbag-sized tube.

Eve Lom Dynaspot is £22 from
