BEAUTY REVIEW: NEW BARE MINERALS TRUE ROMANTIC COLLECTION LIPSTICK &LIPLINER

image

Last week I brought you a review of Bare Mineral’s Marvelous Moxie lipstick shade ‘Never Say Never’. Today, i’m giving you a sneek peek at their new Marvelous Moxie lipstick ‘Feel The Love’, and the new Marvelous Moxie lipliner in ‘Liberated’ from the not-yet-released True Romantic collection.

image

The lipstick is a gorgeous soft pinky-nude, and the liner matches it perfectly. Both are very creamy in formula and just glide on. They are very long-lasting and the lipstick is packed with moisture (from the super-hydrating Abyssinian Oil and Omega Fatty Acids) and vitamins A, C and E. I adore the rose gold bullet packaging also.

image

It is perfect everyday shade, and both the lipstick (£16) and lipliner (£13) will be available here in February.

WHAT MADE ME SMILE LAST WEEK #4

image

It has been so cold for the last few days, so i’ve been delighted with the pretty pastel pink cat print scarf that I got from Inspired Jewels. It is such good quality for a scarf that costs just £5. I’ve been wearing it with leggings, a vest top and a big cardigan. There are lots of different prints on sale for the same price, so I think i’m going to get myself some more to add to my scarf collection.

image

The book i’ve been reading is Angela Clarke’s Confessions of a Fashionista. It is a really entertaining read that peeks behind the often crazy fashion industry.

I started a Graze subscription at the start of last week, and my first box came on Thursday. I love it. It’s a great way to encourage you to eat healthier snacks. You get four at a time, and they send you all the nutritional information for each. In my first box (after telling them my likes and dislikes on their website) I got black pepper rice crackers, honeycomb flapjack, roasted pistachios and cheese rick crackers with salsa. All were delicious, and I can’t wait until box number two. If you want to try out Graze, visit and enter the VIP code K4532QFLE to get your 1st, 5th AND 10th boxes free.

image

More on the topic of food, i’ve been loving the cupcakes from Wholefoods as there is so much yummy frosting. The chocolate ones are my favourite, and I may have eaten a couple this past week.

My Mum went to London for a couple of days last week, and brought me a cute black and red handmade flower bracelet from Camden Lock Market. I love it.

Mary Portas Kinky Knickers’ Maker Goes Into Administration - The manufacturer behind Mary Portas’ Kinky Knickers brand has gone into administration. This is sad as her 2012 TV programme on them was all about reviving British manufacturing.

Victoria Beckham To Open Stand-alone Store - I’m so excited that one of my style icons is going to have her first stand-alone store in London. I’m sure she’ll be very hands on with the interior design and I can’t wait to see it.

BEAUTY REVIEW: BARE MINERALS MARVELOUS MOXIE NEVER SAY NEVER LIPSTICK

image

image

This lipstick is amazing. First of all, the packaging is very sleek. It’s a heavy metal with a slick slider that allows you to pop the lipstick out from its shell.

image

The colour is very pigmented and has a nice sheen. It isn’t drying at all on the lips as it is very creamy, and is very hard-wearing. You won’t have trouble on a night out- it will last you all the way through.

image

The shade is Never Say Never, a gorgeous deep fuchsia that is perfect for the upcoming Spring/Summer, and is available for £16 here

HELPING YOU DE-STRESS IN JANUARY

image

I wanted to share these mental and physical health tips from Fishpools with you as they have some excellent ideas of ways to de-stress in the new year, and recover from the festive frenzy. I’ve been enjoying a lot of me-time this month (usually at night and first thing in the morning) reading, listening to audiobooks and giving myself mini facials. I’ve also cut back on some subscription services that I hardly used last year, and so were just taking money out of my bank account for no reason. I’ve swapped them for ones I will use, for example, Netflix and Graze.

If you are finding this month tough, maybe this will be of assistance- tips to help you de-stress in January for a new, relaxed you that feels better for the year ahead…

A Good Night’s Sleep
The number one way to de-stress is to ensure you get a good night’s sleep (ideally eight hours or more). A comfortable bed helps ensure you gain maximum benefits from your sleep, so consider investing in a high quality mattress, such as a Vi Spring mattress, so you will wake up refreshed and alert. We spent a third of our lives in bed, so it’s worth treating yourself to a good quality, comfortable mattress.

Exercise
With all the rich, tasty foods on offer, most of us over indulge at Christmas, and that can leave us feeling bloated and down in January. Exercise is a proven stress buster so you will be boosting your mood as well as shedding the pounds; making it doubly important. Remember, you don’t have to be a gym member to get regular exercise- some great ways to build it into your schedule include getting off your bus a few stops early and walking, cycling or walking instead of driving for short journeys, going for a jog in the morning or going for a stroll during your lunch break at work.

Make Time for Yourself
During the festive season, you’ve probably spent a lot of time with family and friends. While it’s enjoyable to socialise, it can also be quite draining when you’re spending time in the company of several other people for long periods. Now it’s January, unwind with a bit of alone time. Whether it’s a nice long bath with relaxing oils, such as camomile or lavender, or a luxurious facial at a local spa, having some ‘me time’ will help you to de-stress. If pampering isn’t your thing, try to plan some time into your schedule where you can just sit and read; any time spent doing activities such as these can help you to chill out after the busy festive period.

Consider Meditation
If you’ve never tried meditation before, why not make this the year that you do. Simply by breathing deeply and following some simple relaxation techniques, you can meditate at home. Meditation can help to reduce stress and improve clarity of thinking. Try to set aside a little time to meditate on a regular basis to get the best benefit from this technique.

Take Care of Your Finances
The cost of Christmas is a major cause of stress for some people, and many of us spend January paying for it. Why not make your New Year resolution to budget better, to avoid the same kind of stress at the end of this year. One great idea is to spread the cost of Christmas by putting a little aside each month; to avoid having to pay a large amount out in one go.

The main thing about keeping your stress levels down is to remember that the above tips are not just for January; but for any time you feel that things are starting to get on top of you.

WHAT MADE ME SMILE LAST WEEK #3

        image

Last Friday I headed to Glasgow Fort with my Mum to try to catch the end of the sales; but all the good stuff was mostly gone. I got this cute bow necklace for £2 in New Look though, and I did enjoy a yummy lunch at Prezzo. Their £9.95 lunch menu is great value as the portions are huge. I had breaded mozzarella, then pepperoni pizza with chilli oil. I’d eat pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could!

image

                                       image

Talking of pizza, on Sunday night my husband made his homemade pepperoni pizza. He makes the dough from scratch and it’s amazing. I’ve been on the 5:2 diet this week, and I am liking it much better than cutting back to 1300cal everyday, which i’ve been doing for months. This way I can have 500cal two days of the week and then up to 1900cal the rest (although i’m often not reaching that high). I’m definitely a comfort eater, so I can have a lot more nice things on the 5:2 diet.

I am so happy that Birds of a Feather is back on TV with a brand new series. Pauline Quirke’s character makes me laugh so much, and it is such a comforting watch as it takes me back to the golden age of TV comedy- the 90s- with Keeping Up Appearances, The Brittas Empire, and One Foot In The Grave. The new series is on ITV on Thursday nights, and is three episodes in. Once the next five are finished I really hope they re-commission it.

FASHION NEWS FRIDAY #2

image

There has been one big story this week that everyone has been talking about…

The Unretouched Images From Lena Dunham’s Vogue Shoot- Gossip site Jezebel has criticised Vogue, accusing them of altering the photographs of Girls actress Lena Dunham in their upcoming February issue. If you want to see the un-retouched images side by side with the published ones, head here. Personally, as much as I love Vogue, they have altered her appearance to be more in-line with their image of perfection. If they didn’t think Lena Dunham fitted that image, why put her in the issue at all? Their changes are more than just a little bit of skin smoothing or light retouching after all.

IN LOVE WITH: MY BLOOBRY UNION JACK WALL STICKER

image

A few months ago, I was sent a wall sticker/vinyl from Bloobry, and it was this cute pink and gold Union Jack (£25). I love it, and I finally managed to find time to put it up last week.

I think it goes really well with the pastel blue walls of one of my bedrooms. It took no more than five minutes to apply using the plastic tool that comes with it, to squeeze out any air bubbles and make sure the adhesive is stuck on firmly.

It has really lived up an otherwise plain wall, and if you aren’t keen on these colours, you are able to pick your own selection.

IN LOVE WITH: MY NEW VIVIENNE WESTWOOD KEYRING

image

I am always losing my keys, so I thought they needed a bit of ‘bling’ so that I can keep better track of where they are.

image

The black metal ring says Vivienne Westwood on it, and there is a large black orb encrusted with crystals and a leather tab that also has the orb logo printed on its stud. This keyring is £30 from Vivienne Westwood. It is currently out of stock online; so you can either wait a while, or pop along to your local store and pick one up in person like I did.

IN LOVE WITH: MICHAEL KORS BUCKLE AND STUD JEWELLERY

image

I have fallen in love with this Michael Kors Buckle and Stud bangle (£89.00) from Michael Kors at Harrods. It is stylishly classic; but the studs add that bit of necessary edge for me. It’s a perfect addition to a casual jeans and a t-shirt look, and would be brilliant layered with some friendship-style bracelets. I think the contrast of the gold-toned steel bangle with the rose gold-toned studs is pretty too. Harrods also sell the matching Michael Kors Logo Stud earrings (£49.00) that I adore as well. They also have studs on the front, and feature the Michael Kors logo quite prominently. An ideal gift for Valentine’s Day!

WHAT MADE ME SMILE LAST WEEK #2

image

It has been a fairly non-adventurous week; but I did head into Glasgow city centre for sale shopping. I picked up some great bargains. My two favourites are this oversized gold clutch from New Look (reduced from £12.99 to £3.00) and a Paperchase weekly desk planner (reduced from £8.00 to £4.00). This planner has become a lifesaver already.

image

I’ve also been trying to choose more Spring-like nail colours this week, instead of the dark blues, blacks and greys I wore all Winter. I’ve been trying out the new Orly Blush Collection, and I love this pretty soft pink called ‘Classic Contours’. The Orly Blush Collection is available to buy from March 2014 for £10.25 each.

image

I’ve been back on my diet post-Christmas; but I have had a treat of one of my favourite desserts- S’mores. I line a baking dish with graham crackers (you cannot make this without actual graham crackers), and top them with chocolate chunks and marshmallows before baking in the oven until the marshmallows have a crispy top and the chocolate has melted. It is heavenly.

image

I also got some new lipstick storage units delivered this week. You can get these for just a few pounds on Amazon. I love being able to see my favourite colours clearly now when i’m choosing. This organisation was long overdue!

FASHION NEWS FRIDAY #1

image

Lulu Guinness Collaborates With Clinique - I am so excited about one of my favourite accessories designers Lulu Guinness’ collaboration with Clinique in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Kiss It Better charity for children with cancer. It’s very exclusive with just ten of these limited edition gems being made. Lulu Guinness has signed each of her ten special pink-coloured Izzy bags, which all contain a complete set of Clinique Chubby Sticks. Perfection meets perfection. All ten will be available in February for £550 from House of Fraser online. It’s a great buy to mark the charity’s 10th anniversary.

Marks & Spencer’s Clothing Sales Drop - I think this is a great shame, as dealing with the PR team in Scotland a lot, I know M&S have really focused in recent years on making their collections very fashion-forward and away from just comfy knickers. They have had some stunning and high quality pieces. Unfortunately, I think their price points have always been a little too high; even in their festive sale. Their publicity campaigns and celebrity endorsements have been great, so I don’t think anything can rescue this.

House of Fraser Launches Plus-Size Online Boutique - This is brilliant, as not many of the clothing offerings there at the moment cater to larger dress sizes. The buyers at HoF are great, so I think they will pick some amazing items.

VALENTINE'S DAY GIFTS FOR HIM

image

Christmas is over, so it’s time to start thinking about presents for Valentine’s Day. It is also my husband’s birthday (a milestone) in February, so i’ve put together a collection of what i’m thinking of getting him as a joint and very much once-in-a-lifetime gift. I think that it is never too early to start shopping for men- they are notoriously difficult to buy for. Plus, if you start shopping now, you could pick up some sale discounts and he’ll think you are extra generous.

Damasko DC56 Black Watch With Buckle, £1291.16 - I love this sleek shock-proof, abrasion-proof, stainless steel watch with a classic self-winding mechanical movement.

Harrods Alexander McQueen Leather Briefcase, £995.00 - Super-stylish, leather, and in no way like Roy Cropper’s man bag.

Sonos Playbar, £599 - It provides amazing sound for the TV, music collection and his gaming.

WHAT I'M DRINKING: SOURZ TOFFEE APPLE WINTER DRINK RECIPE

image

I got this sweet Christmas gift from the team at Sourz; but I actually didn’t drink a drop of alcohol over the festive period at all. Over the last few days I have been trying out some ideas of how to make hot Winter drinks with a kick of this delicious Toffee Apple Sourz (£9.00 from Tesco). Some have been inspiration i’ve found online, and some have just been crazy experimentation. I do think I have come up with a winner however- meet my favourite Winter drink of 2014…

Alcoholic Hot Peppermint Candy Apple Tea

This recipe contains alcohol and is for over-18s only. Please drink responsibly.

image

1/2tsp Salted Butter

1tsp Sugar

1tbsp Toffee Apple Sourz

1 Peppermint Tea Bag

Boiled Water

image

Add the butter, sugar, Sourz and tea bag to a cute teacup. Add boiled water and infuse to taste whilst stirring.

WHAT MADE ME SMILE LAST WEEK #1

image

image

Last week was the last week of my two-week festive break. I loved nothing more than being cuddled up in my living room with my Christmas decorations, tree and fairy lights. Last night I packed them away until next year; but not before taking some photos to show you what I enjoyed.

image

I’ve also been listening to The Carrie Diaries audiobook on Audible on my new tablet that I got for Christmas. It’s a great listen at bedtime, and I can’t wait to begin watching the TV series as soon as I get a chance.

image

The candle i’ve been burning all week is Yankee Candle’s White Chocolate Mint. It is heavenly, and the mint stops it from smelling too sickly. Speaking of chocolate, i’ve also been addicted to the bitter sweetness of Wholefood’s Organic Truffles. One is a full-on blast of chocolate deliciousness.
