I have been into upcycling for a long time. So far, I have upcycled a wardrobe with Farrow & Ball wallpaper (see this post here), and I currently have a mirror and shelf rack standing by for when time permits. I'm always browsing ideas on Pinterest too (see my Upcycling Ideas board here). So, I was excited when I was invited along to a blogger upcycling event at the Ideal Home Show Scotland with Zero Waste Scotland and Revolve (Scotland's second-hand quality standard).

A while ago, award-winning London hair salon group Rush, launched their own line of nine haircare and styling products designed by their artistic team. I've only just got round to trying some, and am now very disappointed that I waited so long.

White Chocolate, Raspberry & Macadamia Nut Cookies Recipe

I love cookies and cookie dough, and my favourite flavour combinations are white chocolate with macadamia nuts, and white chocolate with raspberry. So, I decided to make a batch that combined them all- the ultimate heavenly cookie!

I saw this tag on the All Things Beautiful blog, and as I'm a self-confessed blusher addict, and I do love a good tag post, I thought I'd give this one a go myself and tag some other bloggers to do it too. So, here are the questions...

What colour blush suits you the most?

Definitely rose gold- Sleek MakeUP's Rose Gold (£4.49) and Benefit's Rockateur (£23.50) are great blushers that suit me perfectly.

Pressed, cream or loose?

Pressed is my favourite as I find it the easiest to use and apply. Loose is just too messy and pointless to me. I do like a bit of cream blush in the Spring and Summer though, for a dewy look.

Favourite shimmery blush?

Benefit Cosmetics' Rockateur has a gorgeous golden shimmer to it, that highlights cheekbones beautifully. It smells great too.

Favourite matte blush?

I'm not really a matte blush girl. I do like a bit of shimmer. Although, you can't go wrong with a Sleek MakeUP blusher, and their blush trios Blush By 3 (£9.99) give you the best of both worlds with a matte, a satin and a shimmer finish choice.

Favourite cream blush?

My favourite cream blushers are from Chantecaille (£19.50) as they are thick, creamy and highly pigmented. A little goes a long way, and they have great staying power.

Favourite drugstore blush?

The whole pressed blusher range from Sleek MakeUP is amazing. They are such good quality and for such a low price too. I find them really long-wearing and highly pigmented- a little dab of your brush in the pan is all you need.

Favourite MAC blush?

I've only ever used Ripe Peach, as I'm not a huge MAC fan. The recent MAC re-release of Ripe Peach in the Toledo collection combined a great natural blusher shade with fabulous packaging.

Biggest blush disappointment?

The Art Deco Cream Rouge for Lips & Cheeks (£12). The formula is so greasy and odd- I don't know why I ever used them or kept hold of them for so long!

Best blush packaging?

It has to be Benefit blushers. Lots of people hate the cardboard boxes; but I really like them. They are compact, have a handy mirror and I really rate the little brushes that come in them too.

What's on your blush wishlist?

I have so many blushers that I actually don't have any on my wishlist at the moment. I have quite a stash!

Holy grail blush?

If I could only have one blushed for the rest of my life, I'd be happy with Benefit's Rockateur (it's a winner in this post). It's a great all-round blusher that's perfect for all seasons.

I would love Julie-Ellen, Kia from Make Me UP and Miss Makeup Magpie to do this tag. Go on ladies! Please share your blusher recommendations with me in the comments too.

I've collected a few new Summer fashion clothing and accessories items over the past couple of weeks, so I thought I'd bundle them together into a haul-style post. I hope there is something in here that catches your eye too!

I popped into Primark, and this cute pink/coral 'I Only Speak Chic' vest top caught my eye. It was only £3 too, so how could I resist something so cute?!

I was actually in Primark to get some sunglasses, as they make great ones that I don't mind losing, for only £2 to £3. The animal print ones were £2, and the gold-rimmed ones were £3.

I am totally in love with my very Summery South Pacific Kaftan (£28) top that I got from Boux Avenue. It's meant to be beachwear; but I'm going to just style it over a black vest top on sunny, hot days. I go to the Boux Avenue store at Glasgow Silverburn; but a new store is opening at Union Square in Aberdeen on 11th June, if you are based up there.

I also got these incredibly comfortable Sketchers Go Vulc Strand navy and white casual canvas shoes (£47). They have such a cushioned 'pillow' in them; which I love. They are reduced to just £24.99 online at Mastershoe now.

Finally, I picked up this Summery striped beach bag with rope handles (£12) from Edinburgh Woollen Mill. I'm going to use this as a city tote, on really sunny days and teamed with a pair of jeans.

Have you bought anything yet for the warmer weather coming?

When I do a Lush bath haul, I usually fill my basket with the usual suspects that I've reviewed multiple times before (over 50% of my order is always Twilight bath bombs). So, this time, I thought I'd add in a few that I'd never even smelt before, as they sounded great for Summer. Here's how I got on with them...

Lush Avobath Bath Bomb

Lush Avobath Bath Bomb In Bath

Avobath Bath Bomb, £3.35
I have actually discovered a new favourite! This bath bomb is amazing- it's full of skin-nourishing, hydrating avocado and olive oils, and has a strong, fresh, clean lemon scent. This is a great choice for morning baths as it refreshes and wakens you, setting you up for the day.

Lush You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt

You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt, £3.35
I knew that, as a bath melt, this wouldn't be as strongly scented as a bath bomb; but I was hoping for a bit more mango for my money than what I got. It didn't really do much to my bath's appearance either- just very slowly dispersing oils. The scent of this is more lemon and lime than mango; but it does contain mango butter (along with cocoa and avocado butters) to moisturise the skin. My skin gets the same effect, and a lot more fun, from many bath bombs and bubble bars; so I think I'll just stick with those in the future. If you do have incredibly dry skin however, it may be beneficial to add this in with a bath bomb for extra hydration.

Lush Big Blue Bath Bomb
Lush Big Blue Bath Bomb In Bath

Big Blue Bath Bomb, £3.35
I can barely talk about this without wanting to be sick. I was so disappointed when I dropped this huge heavy bath bomb in my bath, as I was expecting a fresh ocean scent and blue 'waves', but what I got was a house filled with my most hated smell ever- clove oil. Nowhere in the description or ingredients list does it mention cloves; but it does say 'perfume', so I'm guessing this is where the pungent clove scent comes in. This is basically nothing like it is described, and was very quickly drained down my plug hole. If you love clove oil though, you'll have a party with this.

You can purchase all of these from Lush stores nationwide, or online at

What are your favourite, and least favourite, Lush bath products?

SSE Hydro Clydesdale Bank The Vault

Nearly two weeks ago, I was invited by Clydesdale Bank to the last night of Take That's Glasgow concerts at the SSE Hydro arena. This was very much a VIP experience, as my seat was a comfy red sofa in a carpeted box- aka The Vault. I am more of a fan of Take That's brilliant modern music releases, than I am of them in the '90s.

Take That Tour Glasgow 2015

Clydesdale Bank sponsor The Vault at the Hydro- it's a luxurious and cosy place to watch concerts from as it has epic views, and even has a personal waiter service (all you need to do is press a button). The Vault removed two of my major bug-bears about concert going- people standing up in the seats in-front of me, and queuing for drinks at the bar. I don't think I can ever view a concert in a regular way again after experiencing The Vault.

If you have a ticket for a concert at the SSE Hydro, there is a chance you too can experience the luxury of The Vault. On the Clydesdale Bank website, you can enter your details into a prize draw, and your seats might just be upgraded for that VIP red sofa. It's free to enter, so you've got nothing to lose by trying.

Laura Pearson-Smith

After the concert, I did some filming about my experience in The Vault, as the Take That tour team packed up for Dublin behind me. It was an amazing night.

FaceD 3-LURONICS Instant Effect Depuffing Eye Masks

I previously reviewed some bargain budget eye masks from Home Bargains (here), and I thought those were amazing until I tried these FaceD 3-LURONICS ones (8 for £7.99) from Lloyds Pharmacy. I still stand by my original view on the budget ones (12 for £1.49)- they are great, but they just aren't as effective as these more expensive ones.

The main difference between these FaceD 3-LURONICS Instant Effect Depuffing Eye Masks and the budget ones I reviewed, is that these hydrate my eye area and reduce puffiness much better. My skin feels so soft, flat and smooth after using these.

The two hydrogel pads that you place under your eyes come sealed in individual pairs so that they keep hold of all the moisture they contain. After 20-30 minutes of wear, these masks go hard and rigid as your skin has literally drunk all of the decongesting and moisturising ingredients they contain.

They are instantly cooling, and contain green tea extract, ginko biloba, aloe, chamomile extract, camellia extract and Hyaluronic Acid to oxygenated, stimulate blood circulation, tone, drain and relieve bloating. You will see an instant reduction (12% proven after one use and 25% after one month) in puffiness, which makes these a great quick beauty fix to look more awake.

Do you like the sound of these?

Laura Pearson-Smlth Glasgow News Column

I'm delighted to be back from my week's break. I was getting a real blogging and social media itch. I wanted my first post back to be a bit of amazing news- I now have a one-page, fortnightly newspaper style column in The Glasgow News!

The paper comes out every second Friday, and my column is split into three sections every issue- 'My Stylish Happenings...' (my top fashion, beauty and lifestyle buys this week) and 'Instagram of the Week' (my favourite image from my Instagram account that week). If you don't live in Glasgow to pick up a hard copy, follow me on Twitter @LPearsonSmith as I'll be tweeting out when the paper is available for free download at

I hope you have all still been enjoying my blog this week while I have been on holiday. Here is another guest post for you to tide you over until I return at the weekend. Over to Sheradan from the blog Sherry Scribbles...

As a qualified hairdresser, I've gone through every hair colour under the sun; which was great at the time, but it did start taking it's toll on my hair. So, I needed to change the way I was treating it.

For the best part of 3 years, I've been growing it out after chopping the lot off for a fresh start. It's finally reached a length I'm happy with and I've made my decision on a colour (well two) that I plan to stick with for a while. I noticed though, that my hair was so fine and brittle that the actual end result I was trying to achieve seemed impossible.

Hours of researching products that would give me those big and bouncy celebrity-style locks I wanted made my head spin, as there's too many. I finally plucked up the courage to pick one that was inexpensive but with great reviews, and landed on Biotin Maximum Strength 10,000mcg supplements (£7.49 from Amazon); which support healthy hair, nails & skin. The pack contains 6 months worth, and you are advised to take 1 daily with a meal.

Now, these are to be used over the course of 6 months and I've completed about 1 month so far, I must admit though, that although I can't see a massive change in the length or thickness of my hair yet, they have worked wonders for my nails. Unfortunately, I have a bad habit of nail biting, but these have helped kick that habit to the curb. I finally have nails I can be proud to show off- bonus!

Figuring that the Biotin supplements would lead to a gradual and less noticeable change, I opted for looking into a 'quick-fix' solution to give my hair the volume I wanted.

Browsing down the aisles of B&M Bargains, I was drawn to two red bottles of Biotin & Collagen Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner. For only 99p each, it was definitely worth a try. My verdict after just one use was that 99p is an absolute steal! I went back the next day and bought all the stock they had left. It certainly does what it says on the tin, and to say I was impressed is an understatement.

The bottles state the following- "Superfood for your hair. Create the appearance of thicker, fuller hair. Contains Biotin and Collagen for strong, thick hair". On the back they explain that they have been blended with Vitamin B7, Biotin and Collagen.

This shampoo and conditioner is what I have been referring to my friends and work colleagues as 'magic in a bottle', because one use is enough to give me that thick and bouncy look. I no longer need to spend hours in front of the mirror with hundreds of products, or back combing my hair within an inch of its life, to give me the volume or the fullness I want. I can simply hop into the shower, use this shampoo and conditioner and blow dry as normal. My ends no longer look dry and brittle, my roots certainly look shinier and I have never received so many compliments when I leave the house (with hair as fabulous as Nicole Scherzinger and Cheryl Cole).

Have you tried any Biotin products for your hair? Did they make a difference too?

I am on holiday this week, so today's post is from Leanne, blogger at Little Babble. I'll let her begin...

Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask

I’m Leanne and I usually blog over at Little Babble, but for today Laura is letting me guest post here whilst she has a bit of a break! For my guest post I will be writing about what I think is an unsung hero of the face mask world, from one of my favourite skincare brands- Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask (£23 from Boots).

With the changeable weather at this time of year (sunshine one minute then being whipped with wind the next – what’s that all about?) skin is often in need of a helping hand when it comes to the moisture department. It’s at times like these that I reach for the Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask as it's absolutely perfect for giving skin a moisture boost.

The mask has the consistency of a very thick moisturiser and smells divine thanks to the apricot kernel oil that it contains. I use this mask whenever I feel the need to; which is usually around once a fortnight. I start by making sure that my skin is clean, and then smother my face in the mask; putting the focus on any really dehydrated areas. As the name suggests, you only need to leave this mask on for ten minutes, but if I have the time I will often leave it on for a little longer.

After rinsing off this mask, my skin feels much softer and any dry patches aren't so dry anymore. Origins Drink Up makes my skin look much less dull, and helps my makeup go on much smoother and last longer. I really recommend this mask for anyone whose skin needs a moisture boost, no matter your skin type.

I hope you enjoyed this post about one of my favourite face masks. Thank you for reading and thank you Laura for letting me take over your blog for today!

I am on holiday for a week, so today's post is from Stephanie, blogger at Merry Musing. I'll leave you in her capable hands...

Top Three Hair Masks

Now, if you're anything like me, then you probably put your hair through a lot- too much heat, too much styling and definitely too much product. Sound familiar? I thought it might; which is why I wanted to share with you all my top three hair masks, for when you want to treat your hair to a bit of TLC.

I only use hair masks once a week, normally during my Sunday evening pamper sessions. The candles come out, I read a magazine and I treat my locks to an intensive hair mask. Afterwards, my hair just feels healthy and normal again. It's soft, smooth and nourished; which is how I like my hair to look and feel. So, let me share with you my three favourites...

Toni & Guy Nourish Reconstruction Mask

Toni & Guy Nourish Reconstruction Mask £6.49, Boots
Now if you would describe your hair as distressed at times, then this is the mask for you. I use this when I feel like I have seriously abused my hair - through over styling and using too much heat. This mask works by providing advanced repair and replenishment for damaged hair. After using it my hair feels smooth and frizz free and it smells delicious.

Percy & Reed Totally TLC Hydrating Hair Mask

Percy & Reed Totally TLC Hydrating Hair Mask £20, SpaceNK
This mask is a bit pricier than the other two, but I'm sucker for cute packaging and hair products don't come much prettier than the Percy & Reed range. The first thing to mention with this one is the gorgeous smell- it's fruity with hints of coconut, mango and Aloe Vera. This tends to be my everyday hair mask for when my hair is in relatively good condition with no immediate issues. It leaves my hair feeling softer and shinier. Plus, it comes with the cutest hummingbird shower cap to use with the mask.

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque £4.19, Boots
Although this mask is recommended for daily use, I only use this when my hair has been seriously frizzy and quite temperamental. The formula in this mask is a little thicker to others I use, which means a little goes a long way. After using this, my hair always feel nourished, a lot easier to manage and most importantly, no longer frizzy.

So, these have been my three favourite hair masks. What are yours?

April Beauty Favourites

I can't believe it's May already- my birthday month! As always, here are my favourite beauty products that I enjoyed, and used religiously, last month.

Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Sunglow

Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Sunglow Swatch

Laura Mercier Illuminating Eye Colour in Sunglow, £18.50, Urban Retreat Boutique
I love this gorgeous gold eyeshadow as it has such a creamy powder formula that applies so smoothly and pigmented. It has a lovely glistening pearl finish too. I know this is expensive for a single eyeshadow, but it really is so beautiful if you want to treat yourself.

Balance Me Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm

Balance Me Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm, £20, Balance Me
This hot cloth cleanser (which comes with a lovely cloth) is a delight to use. It deeply cleanses and nourishes normal/dry skin, and has a rich oily texture. My face feels so deeply cleansed and refreshed after using this, and it's great at removing makeup. It is also a gentle exfoliator too, to add radiance.

Bourjois Instant Dry Nail Drops

Barry M All In One Clear Basecoat, Topcoat & Nail Hardender, £4, Very
I think, at long last, I have found my perfect clear nail polish top coat. I've only been using this as a top coat, and it gives my nail polish amazing lasting power. 7 days after applying, I only have the tiniest wear on the tips of my nails. It has a brilliant glossy finish too. This is just a definite winner for me, and a bargain too.

Bourjois Instant Dry Nail Drops, £7, Very
If there is something I really hate about my beauty routine, it's waiting on my nails to dry. I can't stand it, and always smudge at least one out of impatience. With this product, you just apply one drop, using the built-in pipette, onto the newly applied nail polish on the surface of your nail- it quickly speeds up the drying time and makes it touch-dry just about instantly.

Burberry Kisses Lipstick in 109 Military Red

Burberry Kisses Lipstick in 109 Military Red, £25, Net-a-Porter
I got this free miniature Burberry Kisses lipstick sample from their huge social media campaign, and it's an exact replica of the full-size; right down to the snappy magnetic lid, the logo embossing on the bullet and the luxury mini box it comes in. The colour is a gorgeous bright pink-toned red, and it's highly pigmented and creamy. I find that it is really moisturising on my lips too, and is very long-wearing; which is exactly what I want from a bold statement lip.

Have you tried any of these?
