Collection Field Day Range

The new Collection Field Day range has been in Boots and Superdrug stores for a couple of weeks now, and I am just loving these affordable and colourful Spring products. The range is inspired by green meadows and wild Spring flowers, so there is a great mixture of muted pastel shades and vibrant brights for creating a beautiful hippie-ish look.

Collection Field Day Lipsticks

Collection Field Day Lipstick Shades

Collection Field Day Lipstick Swatches

My favourite products in the Field Day range are the two matte lipsticks- shade 1 Pink Rose and shade 2 Tulip. These, and the glossy shade 3 Fuchsia, apply so well and are amazing quality for just £2.99 each. I can't believe I haven't checked out Collection's lipsticks before, as I'm always looking for great matte ones.

Collection Field Day Eyeshadow Pencils

Collection Field Day Eyeshadow Pencil Swatches

The shimmering cream eyeshadow pencils create a sheerer look than you would think from the shades of the sticks themselves, so they are perfect for creating a gentle wash of colour across the eyelid. They come in two shades- the gold Golden Sun, and the green Summer Meadow. At just £3.19 each, these are a great bargain too, and are incredibly long-wearing.

Collection Field Day Heather Nail Polish Swatches
One Coat, Two Coats

Finally, there are three nail polishes in the range. I have one of them- the beautiful dusky pastel Heather shade (£1.99). I am wearing it just now, and as I'm writing this, I've realised just how long this polish has been on my nails without chipping. Normally I would never get anything approaching 5 days out of a nail varnish. I'll definitely be picking up some more from Collection.

This whole range is so affordable; but if you only get to try one thing, I'd recommend the lipsticks- you'll honestly be blown away. There is currently a 3 for 2 offer on at Boots, so go, go, go!

I wanted to share with you a few accessories that I've picked up in the past week to update my wardrobe for Spring and the brighter weather.

I love this cute little orange crossbody bag (£35) from the SS15 Star by Julian McDonald collection at Designers by Debenhams. I'll be able to take this colour right through into Autumn too. It's just big enough to hold my phone, cards/money and makeup essentials; so perfect for a night out.

This bold pink and red heart print scarf (£8.99) from Flamingo Gifts is just my style. It's a 'happy' scarf, and I'm going to be wearing it all through Spring to add some colour and keep the inevitable winds out.

Finally, I got another scarf- this one has a cute delicate floral print, and I love the super-soft crinkled fabric. It's from the Country Rose collection at Edinburgh Woolen Mill, and is £12. I think both my new scarves go well with the orange bag too, don't you think?

Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Wrinkles & Firmness

I got the chance to review these new Yves Rocher day and night moisturising creams, and they intrigued me, so I jumped right in. First, they are France's No.1-selling skincare brand, and what do we always say about French women? Secondly, they are all-natural, with a focus on using home-grown botanicals.

Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Wrinkles & Firmness Day Cream

I have been testing out both day and night creams (£29 each) from the Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Wrinkles & Firmness* range. They promise to significantly reduce wrinkles, plump and firm skin, and hydrate. Now, I am only 30, and have no wrinkles yet, so I cannot comment on their effectiveness at tackling those that have already formed. I, however, wanted to try these creams out as a preventative measure, to keep my skin plump and firm.

Yves Rocher say that the star ingredient in these creams is mesembryanthemum crystallinum (otherwise known as the 'crystalline ice' or 'life plant'). It is supposed to stimulate the skin's protein and activate the cell mechanisms that fight wrinkles. Not being a scientist, I turned to skincare expert Charlotte Lewis from TestedBeauty.com to find out if this ingredient is actually 'all that', and it seems it is: "Found in South African desserts the 'life plant' has been picked up by beauty companies for its unusual skill of being able to adapt and grow in different conditions - an exciting anti-ageing ingredient. Extractions of the plant have been added to beauty products to stimulate proteins in the skin to reduce wrinkles and keep skin firm".

Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal Wrinkles & Firmness Night Cream

These botanical-scented creams have definitely made my skin feel very hydrated, and firmer too. My favourite is the thicker night cream, as in the morning following use, my skin is especially plump- like it's had a good drink of a healthy liquid.

I have long been an advocate of using both a day and a night cream, and I asked Charlotte what the differences were: "Most night moisturisers combat two things; anti-ageing and moisture. Thirsty skin will definitely benefit from a night moisturiser as the added nourishment overnight will leave skin feeling soft and supple...[night creams] do not have SPF in them and are generally thicker and more hydrating. Most night creams may have a higher level of active ingredients, as the skin is not exposed to the sun, therefore irritation is reduced and the product can work into the skin whilst you sleep".

If you are looking for a new skincare regime that will deeply moisturise and hydrate your skin whilst also offering anti-aging benefits, I'd definitely recommend giving these luxurious-feeling creams a try.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream

This is a brand new launch from Bare Minerals, and I love it. It won't hit stores until April, so if you are planning on picking up a new foundation, BB cream, CC cream or tinted moisturiser, hold your horses until then.

I list all of these types of bases, as the new Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (that's a mouthful) is indeed the best of all of these formulas. It provides a brilliant light coverage, is incredibly hydrating and evens out your skin tone too; all whilst protecting you with built-in SPF.

This is literally my dream Summer base product. As you'll know if you've read this blog for a while (or just happen to glance at the popular posts list to your right), I also love Bare Minerals' Bare Skin foundation for it's lightweight breathable and build-able coverage (see my review here). I'll still continue using this in the colder months, or on days when I need more coverage; but the new Complexion Rescue Gel is my new Summer saviour- when I apply it, it has a great dewy and youthful finish, and doesn't look like I'm wearing anything at all.

With                                       Without

Luckily I normally benefit from having clear skin, as yes, the coverage from the Complexion Rescue Gel is very light indeed. It covers and evens out skin discolourations and patchiness brilliantly; but not large blemishes or acne. So, if you suffer regularly from these, I'd recommend their Bare Skin foundation instead, as this is more of a perfecting product.

The Complexion Rescue Gel is also a brilliant moisturiser. You feel it instantly hydrate your skin as soon as you apply it, and it continues to do so throughout the day. They have proven a 215% increase in skin hydration after just one week of use. I find it a real treat for my skin as it contains no chemicals, no oil and no fragrance; plus the mineral-based SPF 30 protects me from harmful UV rays. There is also a natural anti-oxidant in there (heart-leaf globe daisy) to protect against modern environmental stresses.

The Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream comes in 10 different shades to suit all skin tones. I am using the lightest shade Opal 01. Will you be trying this out when it launches?

Recently, clothing brand and catalogue Kaleidoscope asked me if I wanted to take part in their #GlamYourMum campaign by dressing my Mum in an outfit of her choice from their website. Immediately, a thought struck me- this will only be fun and useful if I take the choice away from my Mum and style her myself. So, in an attempt to inject more colour and current trends into her wardrobe, I decked her out in a surprise outfit. I'm rather pleased with the results.

Kaleidoscope are also offering you the chance to win an outfit for your Mum; but more details on that once I've shown you what I chose for mine...

I wanted something with a bold floral print and bright colours, so I chose this beautiful silk-effect top (£35). It has a flattering and baggy cut with an elasticated waist, so would suit all shapes and sizes.
I then worked with the colours of this top to choose the rest of the items.

These silver and pastel blue shoes (£29) are flat and comfortable, whilst being stylish (with cut-out sides) at the same time. I actually love these so much that I am ordering myself a pair- just as long as we don't wear them on the same day!

I fell in love with this pretty bag (£35) as soon as I saw it, and will definitely be borrowing it. It is a sturdy, boxy cream boucle fabric bag with silver hardwear. I was careful to stick with silver because of the shoes, as I hate mixing silver and gold.

I also chose these cute pastel blue sunglasses (£29). I thought the silver dragonfly detail on the side went well with the floral garden theme of the top. I may be borrowing these too. Finally, to finish the outfit off, I put her in jeans (£19) to add a casual element to it. The floral stitching detail on the back pocket continues the overall theme, which I love.

What do you think? To win an outfit for your deserving Mum, enter this Instagram competition- all you have to do is post a photo on Instagram of your Mum, with the hashtag #GlamYourMum. Follow and tag myself @lpearsonsmith and @kaleidoscope_uk in the photo and you are good to go. On Friday 27th March 2015, I will select my favourite to win an outfit of their choice. Note: there will be an outfit budget set by Kaleidoscope. Good luck!

My jewellery collection has grown considerably over the last year, and when I've had something new, I've not been putting it away neatly, but just chucking it in a pile. As a result, I've had no idea what jewellery I own and couldn't choose easily what to wear.

So, I decided once and for all to get my collection organised when I saw this gorgeous retro suitcase set online (£19.95 at Flamingo Gifts). Now I use just this, and my Stackers jewellery box system, to store everything I have. In my Stackers boxes, I've put my more delicate or more expensive small jewellery; saving the retro suitcases for my costume jewellery.

The large red one is now home to my statement necklaces (a favourite of mine); while the medium blue one stores all my larger-sized or costume bracelets and bangles.

In the small yellow one, I keep costume rings- I definitely need to go on a ring shopping spree now that I see how little I have.

Do you like my new retro suitcases? How do you store your jewellery collection?

Bomb Cosmetics Review

Being a major Lush fan (see my latest Lush haul here), Bomb Cosmetics is a brand I've only tried once before; so I was excited to experience some of their new Spring products (and long-standing classics) with my last few baths. I tried 3 bath products from Bomb Cosmetics- Daisy Roots, the new Tweetie Pie Bath Blaster and their Milk & Honey Bath Brulee.

Bomb Cosmetics Daisy Roots Review

I used Daisy Roots (£2.29) first. It made my bath water turn yellow with blue glitter. Straight out the packet it had a pleasant gentle floral scent; but when added to my bath, I smelt nothing. Even when cupping water in my hand and holding it under my nose while in the bath, the scent was extremely weak and almost non-existent. Not what I want from a bath bomb!

Bomb Cosmetics Tweetie Pie Bath Blaster Review

The pretty Tweetie Pie Bath Blaster (£2.29) did have a much stronger scent than Daisy Roots, so I could smell it's cedarwood & geranium scent when I was in the water; but it definitely didn't scent the room. It turned my bath water a nice pink shade. I'd use this again; but wouldn't go out of my way to buy one as it just doesn't have the sensory power of Lush.

Bomb Cosmetics Milk & Honey Bath Brulee Review

Finally, I've had a couple of baths with the Milk & Honey Bath Brulee (£3.49), as it lasts for up to six baths. I did actually really quite like this- you drop it in your bath and allow some of it to dissolve, before removing it for next time. It creates a nice foam, and releases moisturising cocoa butter into the water. The scent is creamy and sweet, with relaxing Lavender and Camomile. Not a strong a scent as I'd like; but it was definitely evident.

The reasons I love Lush so much are that a) their products are very pungent and the scent really fills a room, and b) their range looks visually striking and often really cute. Bomb Cosmetics' products are good; but don't come close to Lush unfortunately.

Last week I went to the Debenhams SS15 Press Show in Glasgow, at the stunning Gallery of Modern Art. It was all the gorgeous dresses that really caught my eye this season, so I wanted to share some of my favourites from the show with you.

Laura Pearson-Smith

I wore statement trousers (George at Asda SS15), as the weather here in Scotland is still very much of the Winter variety. I teamed this with a black jumper, red suede Duo Boots wedges and a SS15 grey leather Radley clutch bag. The dresses on show, however, made me desperate for the sun to appear.

I love this pretty floral dress from Debut as it's a real eye-catcher, and this pretty pastel blue dress by No.1 Jenny Packham is so floaty and in such a perfect muted shade- it will land in stores within the next two weeks.

The catwalk show itself had some stunning evening and party dresses. I love this cream and gold jacquard prom dress from No.1 Jenny Packham- it's embellished neckline is beautiful. The long-sleeves, and embellishments on this rose dress (also from No.1 Jenny Peckham), makes it another favourite of mine. The waistline is very flattering too.

Has anything here caught your eye?

Banana Cupcakes With Cream Cheese Frosting

I hope you are feeling hungry, as I baked some delicious banana cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, and want to share the recipe with you. So, get that oven pre-heated to 190C, and let's begin...

For the sponge, you will need:

2 Cups Plain Flour
1tsp Baking Powder
1 Cup Light Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Unsalted Butter
2 Large Eggs
2 Cups Chopped Banana
2 tsp Vanilla Extract

Banana Cupcakes Recipe

Begin by creaming the butter and the sugar together, before beating in the eggs. Next you want to add in the flour and baking powder and mix until there are no lumps. Finally, add your banana and vanilla extract to the mixture, then whisk with an electric mixer until smooth.

Woodland Animals Cupcake Cases

You are now ready to divide your cake mix into 12 cupcake cases (I could only fit 11 on my tray). I used this cute Woodland Creatures Baking Set (£5.95) from Flamingo Gifts as the design is just so sweet. Bake your cupcakes in your pre-heated oven for 17 minutes. When you remove them, they should be springy to the touch and you should be able to insert a knife into the middle of one and have it come out clean.

When the cupcakes are cooling, you need to make your cream cheese frosting to go on top. For this you will need:

1/2 Cup Butter
1/4 Cup Cream Cheese
1 Cup Icing Sugar

Throw all these into a bowl and cream until all mixed together and smooth. You can make this to taste; so feel free to add more butter, cream cheese or icing sugar until you get a flavour and consistency you're happy with.

Lastly, cover your cupcakes in frosting and decorate. I think the little woodland animals look great on top.

Is this a recipe you want to try out?

Lush Easter 2015 Products

Lush have released another great range of products for Easter 2015. There are some fabulous new ones, and some popular creations of last year have made a return also.

Lush Golden Egg Bath Bomb Melt Review

Golden Egg Bath Bomb Bomb Melt, £3.75
I am so happy to see this back, even although I do have to de-glitter my bath after using it. This product is both a bath melt and a bath bomb; so it will soften and moisturise your skin with it's Fair Trade cocoa butter shell, and will fill your bath with an explosion of molten gold from its bath bomb centre. The sweet honey scent of this is so indulgent too.

Bunch of Carrots Reusable Bubble Bar, £5.95
Another welcome return from last year's Easter range are these cute carrots. You will get a lot of baths from these (hence the higher price) as each carrot can be used multiple times. All you do is hold a carrot under the tap as you are filling your bath, to create lots of fruity-smelling (buchu, lemon and grapefruit) bubbles.

Lush Somewhere Over The Rainbow Soap Review

Somewhere Over The Rainbow Soap, £4.25
New on the scene, is this incredibly pretty and luxuriously-scented soap. It's rainbow-bright coloured stripes and rose absolute, Sicilian mandarin and neroli oil scent won't fail to relax you and make you smile too. There's also some glitter for added measure- it is Lush after all!

Lush Hoppity Poppity Bath Bomb Review

Hoppity Poppity Bath Bomb, £2.50
This new, cute bunny face bath bomb is perfect for Easter, and will make your bath a lot of fun. This little guy is very fizzy and has popping candy in him too, so he will really give you a kick up the backside with this and his invigorating herbal scent.

Lush Pot O' Gold Shower Jelly Review

Pot O' Gold Shower Jelly, £3.50
What could be more enjoyable that washing in liquid gold? Pot O' Gold gives you the chance to do just this. This is a glittery metallic body wash that smells amazing- sweet orange oil, myrrh resinoid, fresh pineapple juice and vanilla absolute. A sweet and fruity treat that will really kick start your mornings.

What have you tried, or are looking forward to trying, from Lush's Easter range?
