Zen Lifestyle Spa Edinburgh exterior

A couple of weeks ago I headed to the Zen Lifestyle Spa in Edinburgh, on Hanover Street, for an afternoon of pampering. The spa is so chic – decked out in purple, silver and chrome.

First I had a CND Shellac manicure* (£42 from Zen Lifestyle Spa) – getting one of the Zen Signature Manicure designs, which was a nude polish topped with loose gold glitter in an ombre effect.

My nails badly needed attention, as due to my bereavement, I had bitten them right down as far as they would go. I’d managed to grow them back a small amount, but getting my cuticles seen to and having them filed really tidied them up and they grew nicely throughout the length of time that I had the Shellac polish on them.

The polish lasted 11 days on me before one nail badly chipped and I had to soak off the rest of them. My polish looked plump and shiny for the entire 11 days and I was constantly admiring the sparkly design.

After my manicure I was escorted through to a treatment room for a Murad facial. Zen uses Murad products in a lot of their treatments, which I love, as it’s a fantastic, reliable brand.

The facial I had is referred to as the ‘Red Carpet Facial’, but its actual name is the Murad Resurgence Renewal Facial* (£95 from Zen Lifestyle Spa). It lasts 60 minutes and is designed to target fine lines by plumping the skin, improve texture and tone, promote cellular renewal to target signs of ageing, boost hydration and restore a healthy, luminous glow to the skin via AHA acid exfoliation.

My therapist really examined my skin and talked to me about what issues and concerns I had with it, before she decided what Murad cleansers and creams to use on me. It’s very personal, which is great.

The main feature of the facial is the acid peel mask using Alpha-Hydroxy Acids and fruit enzymes to exfoliate the skin, stimulate cell turnover, reduce dullness and give skin a lovely luminosity. This is supposed to sting quite a bit even although it is an entry level peel, however, as I use retinol and AHAs in my daily skincare regime, I didn’t feel a thing.

Finally, she used my favourite Murad product on me – the Eye Lift Firming Treatment. Its a powerful, cooling and tingly eye cream that is applied liberally before under eye patches are placed on top to help it do its work. It really firms and lifts the under eye area and gets rid of any eye bags and fine lines – it’s literally a wonder product.

This is a great facial to have before an important event or night out, as it transforms your skin instantly and makes any makeup you put on top look amazing. I loved how my skin looked when I left the spa and it felt so soft, plump and firm too.

If you find yourself in Edinburgh, I highly recommend that you check this place out as a treat for yourself.

This was a complimentary press visit, but all opinions are my own.
