My hair was in really bad condition over Christmas and New Year (falling out, breaking, knotted and frizzy), until I started a new haircare regime and discovered some hair product gems. Six months later, my hair is strong and healthy, so I wanted to share what i’ve been using with you…
Shampoo
I wash my hair every second day, and have been reverse washing i.e. conditioner first, then shampoo. I have two favourite shampoos which I alternate depending on the needs of my hair. I use the John Frieda Frizz Ease Shampoo (£5.59, Boots) when my hair is a bit flyaway and I need it to be sleeker, and I use OGX’s Keratin Oil Shampoo (£4.66, Superdrug) when i’ve got knots in my hair or if it seems to be breaking easily. This gives it a burst of strength.
Conditioner
Every time I am washing my hair, i’ll condition it too. My hair has a colour in it (a darker brown than my natural brunette shade), so I find that the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Conditioner (£5.59, Boots) helps the colour last longer, and enhances it.
Once a week, I will also use a deep conditioning mask treatment which I apply at the start of my bath so it has time to work it’s magic by the time I shampoo my hair at the end. My favourite at the moment is the is the Swell Hair Advanced Volumizing Mask (£26, Swell). It leaves my hair looking glossy and healthier, and really makes my limp hair more voluminous.
Styling
My go-to hairspray is John Frieda’s Brilliant Brunette Hairspray (£5.59, Boots). It smells good, and gives a strong hold without leaving my hair sticky or crusty.
I straighten my hair so it is smooth and sleek; but sometimes I like a messier ‘beach-style’ look. For this I adore the Davines No.14 Sea Salt Primer (£18, Murdoch London) to add some texture.
When I tie my hair back, I like a back-combed look with some real lift. For this, you can’t beat the Batiste XXL Plumping Powder (£3.99, Boots). I just sprinkle some on right at the roots, and work in with my fingers.
Protection
Before I dry my hair, I spray it with Label M’s Protein Spray (£13.25) for added strength and UV protection. It’s effective and doesn’t weigh my hair down.
