Coconut oil is such a useful thing to have in your cupboards. It is so versatile, and has 101 uses across the beauty and culinary areas. I swear by it, so I wanted to share my top three uses for it with you; in the hope that it’ll inspire you to integrate it into your life too.
The Vita Coco coconut oil (£5.99 from Tesco) is a great one as it’s extra virgin (there are no chemicals in it and it’s never been altered in any way), it’s 100% raw and cold-pressed (so has kept hold of all its natural goodness) and is certified organic.
I use it every night as a hand cream- it smells amazing (of sweet coconut obviously) and isn’t greasy once you have rubbed it into the skin, as it absorbs really quickly. It’s really hydrating and softening.
I also use my coconut oil as an occasional hair mask if it’s feeling particularly dry and damaged. Coconut oil contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that are great for hair. When I use it this way, I apply it through my hair lengths and ends at night, tie my hair back and sleep with it like that before washing my hair in the morning. It helps restore moisture to my hair and stops it from breaking by keeping it really soft.
Finally, I use it to fry things in the kitchen instead of using butter or other oils. It is especially good as an alternative to butter when cooking pancakes, and adds an authentic light coconut taste to Asian stir-frys. Yes, it is very high in saturated fat; but you are only using a tiny amount, and it has a lot of health benefits to counterbalance this- such as a boosted immune system and improved digestion.
How do you use coconut oil?
