It’s the 6th November and I have finished all my Christmas shopping. Do I get a round of applause? Last weekend I descended on the shops of my home city of Glasgow to pick up all the remaining gifts that I needed to buy. There is nothing worse though than going shopping and having to lug all the bags home with you on the train; so I decided to stay the night right in the heart of the city centre at the Ibis Styles Glasgow George Square hotel and I thought I would share my Glasgow Christmas shopping tips with you here on my blog.
Ibis Styles hotels are the more stylish sister to budget hotel chain Ibis. One has recently opened in Glasgow and is themed with lots of wonderful Glasgow landmarks and cliches- there is Irn Bru and a Tunnock’s Teacake awaiting you in your room on arrival, the famous cone statue above your bed, the Finnieston crane holding up your TV and a carpet printed with Glasgow’s Clydeside. It’s a great way to really get a feel for the city if you are a tourist and the staff are really friendly too. There’s even free Wi-Fi and a complimentary buffet breakfast.
Right around the corner is Royal Exchange Square. The Cambridge Satchel Company has a branch here and is great for both male and female Christmas gifts. There are stocking fillers such as leather card holders and larger investment buys in the form of beautiful handbags and, you guessed it, satchels.
If you walk through the square you’ll reach Buchanan Street- at one end is the Argyle Arcade (which is basically a covered street of luxury jewellers) and traditional stylish department store House of Fraser– their beauty hall is architecturally stunning and always decorated beautifully for Christmas.
At the other end of Buchanan Street there is the Buchanan Galleries shopping mall. This houses a John Lewis, which has literally all your Christmas decor needs under one roof. This is definitely the place to go when it is time to put your tree up. They have a huge selection of beauty, fashion and electrical gifts for men and women to choose from too. Also in Buchanan Galleries is beauty store Arran Aromatics, selling Scotland-produced bath and body products. They have some amazing fragrances and some great festive gift sets that I recommend you check out for anyone who needs a bit of pampering.
