I’ve always been of the opinion that hair staighteners are hair straighteners- I’ve never understood why people fork out over £100 for GHDs when they can pop to Boots and get a BaByliss set for £20. I then, however, discovered the £170 L’Oreal Professionnel Steampod straighteners and they changed my world. These are no ordinary staighteners. These are the Queen of the straightening world.
The Steampod is a collaboration between L’Oreal Professionnel and Rowenta Salon Electricals. It straightens and smooths hair using steam instead of just heat. When switched on and the water pod is filled up, they release continuous high-pressure steam to straighten the hair and leave it looking super glossy. From the outside, they look like normal straighteners as they still have heat plates; but the results are phenomenal. It’s just like a blow dry and straightening treatment in one as it gives my hair so much added volume and really smoothes it out. It’s much quicker to do your hair with this than with regular straighteners too. I usually find straightening a chore, but it is so quick and easy now that I have my Steampod. It even has a clip-on comb to shape your as you go hair too. You can also create beautiful waves and I can’t wait to try this next.
There are five temperature settings between 140 and 210 degrees. The literature you get with the device advises you on which one you should use dependant on your hair type. My hair is quite fine so I use them at 170 degrees. To protect your hair, L’Oreal Professionnel have two great Steampod conditioning products- the Steampod Serum (£15.40) and Steampod Sensitised Cream (£15.40) allow you to straighten the hair and keep it hydrated (the steam opens the hair cuticle to retain natural moisture levels) without heat damage. They use Pro-keratin, strengthening ceramides, avocado oil and almond oil to protect your hair and keep it frizz-free.
This nifty gadget is definitely worth every penny as you can get salon results at home easily. The L’Oreal Professionnel Steampod can be purchased for £170 from Feel Unique.
