Last week, I descended on my local Beefeater restaurant in Newton Mearns (The Castle Beefeater) to try out their newly launched festive menus. I went with my husband, and as the restaurant name suggests, we went prepared for meat and lots of it.
It must have been as long as seven or eight years ago since I was last in a Beefeater, and even then it was only because I was staying in the adjoining Premier Inn hotel and working long hours on the film set of Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix in Watford. It was never somewhere that I had properly looked at the menu in or that I would have thought of going for a nice meal. How wrong was I?!
Their new festive menu is very varied to suit all tastes and budgets and it’s very affordable. For our starter, we both went for the Chicken Liver and Herb Pate (part of the three courses for £18.99 festive menu). I love how it was presented, and it came with toast triangles and a fig chutney. I then opted for the Double Steak Festive Burger from the same menu- it came with fries and had two perfectly cooked quality burgers layered with melted brie, bacon and cranberry sauce.
My husband opted to try the Christmas Day menu, which is four courses for £49.99. He had the 8oz Fillet Steak Rossini, which came with chips and had a melt-in-the-mouth steak sitting on ciabatta bread, topped with pate and a rich beef jus. He claims that this is the nicest steak he has had in a long time. For dessert, he had the Signature Apple & Cherry Crumble with custard from the Christmas Day menu and I went for the Melt In The Middle Chocolate Pudding from the festive menu. My chocolate pudding was delicious, but I could have eaten a lot more of the salted caramel sauce that came drizzled on the plate!
We couldn’t leave without trying out their festive drinks line-up. The manager recommended their new Bombay Saphhire gin concoctions, so I had a lovely and refreshing lime and gin cocktail to end the evening. We had a great meal and were really impressed with Beefeater. Have you been before?
