I had a delightful digital detox in a country cottage last week. I spent four days by a log fire eating chocolate and drinking red wine. Today I’m back blogging and I’m bringing you a look inside the April 2016 Look Fantastic #LFBLOOMS box* (monthly subscription from £11.25 at Look Fantastic).
This box is themed around April being Earth Month, and contains a selection of organic, natural and eco hair and body products, with some random effervescent vitamins thrown in (not quite sure why these are in there and they aren’t something I’ll use). There’s a wonderful Elle magazine too as a little extra with the box- you’ll get this for the rest of the year. This is the first of the Look Fantastic boxes this year that haven’t wowed me though. I think it’s because I’m first and foremost a makeup junkie, with a great love for skincare too. I’m not a huge fan of body products- I never fake tan, can rarely be bothered with scrubs and am incredibly fussy when it comes to hand cream and body lotion scents. This box has a bit too many products that don’t really suit me, but there’s no doubt that it’s still excellent value.
First up in this month’s box is a full-size Rituals Miracle Scrub (worth £11.50) and a travel-size 30ml Elemis British Botanical Hand & Nail Butter (100ml full-size worth £18). The hand cream is very rich and very moiturising. It left my hands incredibly soft, but the scent is too floral for me so I passed it over to my Mum (a hand cream addict). I do really like the Rituals scrub though as the scent (Ginseng and Ginkgo Biloba) is very subtle. It contains lots of nourishing oils and is very softening on the skin without being too course and exfoliating. This is now at home by my sink.
Next, we have a 60ml travel-size of the Tanworx Tan Maintainer (120ml
full-size worth £11.20). This is a body moisturiser that contains
carrot, coconut and sunflower oils to hydrate the skin, along with
Hyaluronic Acid and seaweed to seal in moisture. You are supposed to use
it before fake tan to give it a great base to help it last longer. As I
don’t fake tan or apply much body lotion, I won’t be using this. It’s
such a small tube that I wouldn’t get far with it anyway.
In this month’s box there is also a 50ml travel-size Balance Me Super Toning Body Polish (150ml full-size worth £18). I really like this 99% natural product as it leaves my skin very smooth. It uses ground walnut to exfoliate and contains Blackberry Leaf to aid collagen production and promote cell renewal. It’s not overly course but does the job very well. I love that it’s in a handy tube too and not one of those pots that end up filled with water.
There’s also another body washing product in the box- the 50ml travel-size Bloom and Blossom Bath & Shower Gel (150ml full-size worth £11.50) is free from parabens, sulphates and synthetic fragrance and is 99% natural. It’s completely scent free which is incredibly boring- I think this one will only appeal to someone with sensitive skin, as scent is a major selling point with shower gel. It cleans you well and feels nice to use, but it’s no better in performance than the scent-free 250ml Simple Kind To Skin Refreshing Shower Gel that’s only £2.50. It also contains no artifical fragrance or colour, but does contain Paraben (a chemical compound that’s a preservative) and SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate), so if these chemicals concern you, you would be better off with the Bloom and Blossom gel.
Finally, there’s a fabulous 29ml minature hair mask in the box- Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask (236ml full-size worth £29.91) is cruelty-free, silicone-free and contains no artificial fragrance or parabens. You’ll only get two uses out of this sample size, but it would be a great little tube to take on holiday with you. It’s infused with Argan Oil, avocados, Rosehip and Sweet Almond Oil, as well as Vitamins A, B5 D & E. It adds shine, improves hair’s elasticity and strength, and leaves hair very soft.
