This is one of those products that you’ve never thought about before, but that solves the last remaining problem in your makeup routine. I’m lucky to have basically every tool and product I need to do my makeup at my disposal at home, but I could still never manage to get foundation to sit right on certain extra dry areas of my face no matter what I used. Then Smashbox comes along with their new Photo Finish Primer Oil* (£28) and makes my base go on like a dream.

Why has nobody thought of this before? It’s genius! It’s basically 50% primer and 50% oil, to prep your skin for makeup and nourish it at the same time. You massage in just two drops to clean skin before you apply your makeup. It’s incredibly lightweight and non-greasy, but you do need to give it about 5 minutes to absorb into the skin before you start putting your makeup products on top. It also has a beautiful lavender and chamomile scent to de-stress.

There are 15 different essential lipid-rich plant oils in here (such as Argan and Jojoba) that moisturise, help make your foundation look more like skin, and give you a radiant and dewy finish. I’ve been using it every day for the past week and I love it- it makes my skin feel soft, my foundation go on smoothly and just makes everything look healthier. If you struggle with dry skin or with making your base look natural, I would definitely recommend trying this. You can also apply it to cuticles and other dry areas on your body. I don’t see it leaving my makeup bag anytime soon!
