Avon and Smashbox have both released fantastic new mascaras, so I wanted to share them with you along with Smashbox’s new lash primer.
The Smashbox Indecent Exposure Mascara* (£19.50 from Smashbox) looks striking with a velvet-feel lid. It’s a black lengthening mascara that really extends your lashes, so if you are lacking in that department, you need this in your life. It seperates and defines your lashes, and you can lengthen further with multiple coats. The brush gets hold of every lash and is small enough to get into the lower lashline too. You don’t get a lot of clumping with this, even if you apply several coats, and I don’t have to worry about smudging when I’m wearing this as it stays put where it’s supposed to. I don’t really need a lengthening mascara, but I like this one for really dramatic looks for nights out as it holds a curl well.
You can really amp up the drama of this new Smashbox mascara even further if you put their new Photo Finish Lash Primer* (£17 from Smashbox) underneath. This white primer adds volume and length to lashes, amplifies the effects of a mascara placed on top and helps it to wear longer. The brush has two sides- one that you use first to coat every lash, then one that’s a comb for clean, seperated lashes. The primer also helps to condition your lashes and look after them too. It’s great for statement eye looks. I do find the mascara a bit more difficult to take off when I have the primer underneath, so you’ll need a good eye makeup remover- I’ve just started using the bi-phase Decleor Refreshing Eye Makeup Remover (£17.85 from Pure Beauty) and it works really well.
Finally, Avon are releasing their Big & Multiplied Volume Mascara* (£8.50 from Avon) on 5th May. It’s a black volumising mascara that gets right into the root of your lashes to plump, lengthen and seperate. This mascara does everything well and it creates fanned-out lashes that are still subtle enough for daytime. I found that this clumped when I tried to layer multiple coats, but one coat is definitely enough for a striking day look. I’ve been wearing this during the day and then switching to the intense Smashbox offerings when I go out at night and want more extreme lashes.

I photographed these products on top of Dita von Teese’s book Your Beauty Mark.
