This is my first time trying La Prairie‘s skincare products. Yes, they’re expensive, but their high quality ingredients and formulations definitely makes their products worth the money. I’ve plunged right in at the deep end with a whole skincare regime.
La Prairie really bases the creation of their products on scientific expertise, cellular research and pure ingredients. It’s all about anti-aging results and luxury with this Swiss brand that was born in the alps. La Prairie is well known for the use of caviar in their products.
As you can see from the first image, I have a lot of products to take you through, so I’m going to go in the order that you would use them. First up is the La Prairie Cellular Cleansing Water* (£65 from La Prairie). This clear water has a pump spray for you to spray onto a cotton pad and remove makeup from your face and eyes. It has a luxurious floral scent that is quite strong, so if you don’t like scented products, you won’t like any of the La Prairie range. The Cellular Cleansing Water hydrates the skin as well as cleans it, and it helps your skin to maintain an optimal moisture level. I really like this product as it removes makeup very well. This isn’t one of their products that I think is worth the expense however, as you can get just as good cleansing waters and micellar waters on the high street for a fifth of the price.
Next up is the La Prairie Cellular Refining Lotion* (£70 from La Prairie). This is a toner and you wipe it over your skin with a cotton pad after cleansing. It’s alcohol-free and contains plant extracts to soothe and calm the skin and also increase the skin’s hydration levels. It helps to minimise pores and prepares the skin for serum and moisturiser by giving it a final cleanse. Again, I really like this product and although it is highly scented, it doesn’t irritate my skin. I do think you would be better putting your money towards the amazing La Prairie serums and creams however, as there are definitely lots of products that do the same job as this toner for a fraction of the price.
The La Prairie Cellular Hydrating Serum* (£150 from La Prairie) is definitely worth the price tag. This lightweight serum absorbs beautifully into the skin and delivers an extreme dose of moisture to dry and dehydrated skin. It has a triple-action formula to attract moisture and bind it (via sodium hyaluronate) and also prevent moisture loss (via the inclusion of three essential fatty acids). It also serves to improve the results of the moisturiser that is used on top, as well as helping restore the skin’s own natural moisture barrier to help it retain moisture on its own – resulting in plumper and smoother skin – and protecting the skin from the environment with powerful antioxidents. I use one to two pumps of this, depending on how thirsty my skin is, and it has really helped to improve the condition and texture of it.
After serum, I apply my eye cream. The La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye & Lip Contour Cream* (£134 from La Prairie) can be used on both the eye and mouth contour areas, but I just use it on my eyes. This is a real anti-wrinkle cream that delivers, so it’s definitely worth the money – it has really smoothed out the fine lines that I noticed had creeped in under my eyes. This has a strong floral scent and a very thick and luxurious texture. The tiniest amount of this cream goes a long way. It delivers an intense dose of moisture, firms and plumps the skin (via an amino acid complex), reduces the appearance of dark circles (from marine and botanical-derived ingredients) and promotes cell turnover via gentle exfoliation from natural AHAs.
Next, I want to introduce you to La Prairie’s new Cellular Swiss Ice Crystal Transforming Cream SPF 30* (£134 from La Prairie). This is an oil-free CC cream – so it moisturises, colour corrects and provides coverage, as well as offering sun protection and UV protection too. There are four shades, and I have the lightest – Rose. It matches me really well and gives my skin a flawless but natural look. By protecting your skin from the environment, delivering great levels of moisture and helping maintain epidermal stem cells- via three plant extracts – it helps you to look younger for longer.
Finally, the La Prairie Anti-Aging Eye & Lip Perfection A Porter* (£106 from La Prairie) is a lip balm treatment and on-the-go under-eye smoother. It comes in such a chic, white, zippable leather case. There are two compartments – Eyes then Lips – in this compact, as well as a handy mirror. The top layer is an eye cream-gel that can be applied over makeup to instantly reduce lines and signs of fatigue. It does this by swelling the skin with hyaluonic acid to plump lines and using silicone to smooth, and by diffusing light to hide imperfections. I love this and couldn’t live without it now. It doesn’t disturb my makeup and is a great pick-me-up for my under-eye area after a busy day. There are antioxidents and Vitamin E in here, and also Bidens Pilosa – a plant-extract that has retinol-like benefits.
The bottom layer in the compact is the lip balm. This is a thick and luxurious balm that you only need to use a little bit of. It is incredibly moisturising and gives lips a lovely glossy sheen too. It really improves the dryness of my lips and I like using a thicker layer of this as a night treatment too. It plumps and hydrates lips with hyaluronic acid, and protects them with Vitamin E.
