A couple of months ago I brought you a review of Models Own’s new makeup line (you can read it here). Now they have released a new collection – Dare To Bare is full of nude shades and there’s everything from a translucent powder to an eyeshadow palette, nail polishes and lipsticks.
The Models Own Dare to Bare collection* is limited edition and features nude shades to suit all skin tones. You definitely don’t want to be buying this entire collection as lots of the shades won’t suit you; but once you find the ones that have been designed for your skin, you’ll love them… in the most part.
Something that’s for everyone is the eyeshadow palette (£9.99 from Models Own); but unfortunately this is the only thing that I don’t like in the range. For me, the quality of the shadows is really poor – they are very chalky and there isn’t a lot of pigment there, as you have to really layer and layer to get any real colour pay-off.
There are 10 shades in the palette that range from white, through various flesh tones, to deeper burgandy and brick red. I’ve swatched them for you, but please bare in mind that I had to go over these swatches at least five times each to get the colour to show up as strongly and for them not to look patchy.
Onto something I do like, the Models Own Dare To Bare Finishing Pressed Powder (£9.99) is a really nice product. Everyone needs a good translucent powder to blot away shine and to set your makeup. This one is very lightweight, does the job it’s supposed to and contains Vitamin E to help stop the powder drying out the skin. It has a great mirror and is perfectly compact too.
The Dare To Bare collection also has five Semi-Matte Lipsticks (£6.99). These are in a range of pink, brown and orange-toned nude shades. The formula of these is really good – they are velvety smooth, they just glide on to the lips and they are very pigmented. They feel very comfortable to wear too as they contain coconut and rosehip oils to hydrate.
The five shades are 01 Expose, 02 Stark, 03 Kiss, 04 Nude Beam and 05 Naked. The only one that suits my very pale, cool-toned skin and brunette hair is 03 Kiss, so you’ll need to select which ones are right for you. On me, Kiss is the perfect ‘your lips but better’ shade.
Finally, there are five nail polishes in the collection, in the Models Own HyperGel formula (£4.99) that basically has a gel polish effect. The five new shades are Deep Tan, Undertones, Emperor’s Clothes, Suede and Skin Deep. I love the two palest shades against my skin tone. The formula of these is amazing – it’s impossible to get a streaky or patchy finish as the polish is self-levelling. It’s incredibly shiny and chip-resistant too. Nail polishes are definitely the thing that Models Own do best and I can’t wait to pick up some more shades in the HyperGel formula.
