A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to attend an intimate press masterclass with Charlotte Tilbury herself, at House of Fraser in Glasgow, where we watched her do a step-by-step look on a model as we brushed along with her on own own faces. We attempted Charlotte’s The Dreamy Look with some of her most popular products and her new Christmas gift set Dreamy Look In a Clutch* (£90 from House of Fraser).

We each had our own Charlotte Tilbury makeup station and mirror so that we could do the makeup that Charlotte was doing on the model at the front of the room on our own faces. We started by taking off all our makeup – with Charlotte Tilbury’s Take It All Off (£24) – so that we could start with a clean base. 

Then we used some of Charlotte’s skincare to moisturise and prep our skin for makeup. As you’ll know from my October Beauty Favourites post last week (here), I was already quite a fan of the famous hydrating, smoothing and glow-boosting Magic Cream (£70). We also used the Magic Eye Rescue (£40), which minimises the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

We started off the makeup by applying the full coverage Magic Foundation (£29.50). I used the lightest shade – shade 1. This foundation applys beautifully with a flat foundation brush and it looks and feels weightless, whilst still providing amazing coverage. As well as perfecting the skin, it also has anti-ageing skincare benefits too. We followed this with The Retoucher Concealer, which comes in a brush pen format (like Touche Éclat) – I use shade 1 Fair. You can use this to colour correct and disguise imperfections. It also minimises pores and wrinkles and has moisturising properties too.

We then set our base and concealer only in the areas that we needed to – e.g. under our eyes and on our chin – with a fluffy brush and Charlotte’s Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder (£33) in shade 1 Fair. This powder is micro-fine and literally invisible on the skin. It looks incredibly natural, bu serves to prevent skin from shining and to blur imperfections with its soft focus nano particles.

Now it was time to move on to contouring and highlighting with the much raved about Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow (£49) – I used shade Fair/Medium. It has a matte sculpting bronzer and a shimmer highlighter. Charlotte told us that this look was all about light contouring and creating a natural warmth to the skin. We dusted the bronzer across the bridge of our nose – where the sun would naturally hit – then underneath our cheekbones, down the side of our nose, underneath our jaw lines and across our forehead to give more structure to the face. These two powders are just stunning and are so finely milled. Charlotte told us that when highlighting, you need to sweep your brush from the top of your eyebrow, round the side of your eye and down your cheekbone for the most natural and effective look.

Finally, we got to open and play with the limited edition Christmas gift set Dreamy Look In a Clutch (£90). This contains the Legendary Muse Eyeshadow Quad, matte Hot Lips Lipstick in Salma, travel-size Legendary Lashes mascara, travel-size Legendary Eye Liner in Bedroom Black and travel-size Legendary Lip Liner in Bitten Kiss. There’s also a lipstick-shaped USB stick containing tutorial videos from Charlotte.

We started by applying the top left eyeshadow shade all over the lid and blending this out so that there was no harsh lines. We then applied the bottom right shade in the outer corners of our eyes and through our creases to create some dimension. Finally, we took our fingers and patted the very glittery bottom left gold shade across the middle of our lids so that the glitter would catch the light. 

To finish off our eyes, we applied the kohl liner to our top and bottom lash lines. I did this a bit thicker than intended so had to really smoke it out with a brush – resulting in a much heavier eye look than I intended. We finished off our eyes with a few coats of the epic Legendary Lashes Mascara, which is so black, lengthens and adds immense volume to your lashes. It also contains ingredients to condition your lashes too. We also filled in our brows with the fine-tipped and square-shaped Charlotte Tilbury Brow Lift (£22.50). My brows so badly needed waxed on the day of this masterclass and I actually headed to get this done at Benefit straight afterwards.

We then lined and filled in our lips with the lip liner. This has such a creamy formula and doesn’t feel drying at all. We then applied the lipstick direct from the bullet as the innovative shape allows you to do this and get a precise line. Again, this lipstick is very creamy and feels very comfortable on the lips. It also has special 3D volumising pigments that make your lips look fuller.
