It’s time for a look inside this month’s Look Fantastic beauty box – a UK subscription box that’s filled with makeup, skincare and haircare products. It’s my absolute favourite beauty subscription box as it is always incredible value for money. This month is a collaboration with Elle Magazine. It’s definitely a beauty box you need to know about.
The theme for this month’s Look Fantastic box* (from just £13 per month from Look Fantastic) is girl power and the celebration of women. It contains the beauty favourites of the Elle Magazine team. This month’s box is not one that I’m in love with, which is unusual for my Look Fantastic Beauty Box deliveries.
The first product is a concealer from PUR Minerals. Their Disappearing Act Concealer (worth £19.50) is a full-size product. It’s formulated with Retinol, Salicylic Acid and Ceramides, so it’s designed to be anti-ageing and spot-fighting as well as just to disguise blemishes and hide dark circles. I don’t like cream concealers in general as they don’t sit well with my 32-year-old skin now. I also have incredibly pale skin and, although this is in the lightest available shade, it is too dark and too orange for my skin tone. I think that concealers and foundations just are not a good product to put in a subscription box as only a handful of subscribers will be able to use it. The fact that this is a skincare-makeup hybrid is really interesting though.
The next ‘makeup’ product is for the body. The St. Tropez Instant Tan Gloss (full-size worth £12) is a bronze-tinted, high-shine lotion to add some colour to your skin and make it look healthy. This is another product that I don’t like i’m afraid – it’s far too dark for my skin tone first of all (it looks dirty like mud – this is the only available shade), but it’s also very sticky, greasy and doesn’t blend evenly.
Next up, there’s a haircare product. REDKEN Heatcure Treatment (full-size worth £20) is an at-home self-heating hair masque that’s designed to strengthen and deeply condition hair to make it look like you’ve just stepped out of the salon. I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s supposed to make your hair incredibly shiny and soft. I am really keen to try this, but I did find the message on the back, that it needs to be disposed of in a box, because it’s very fatal to aquatic life, quite scary – not worth it for a beauty item!
Also in this month’s box is some STARSKIN EYE CATCHER™ Smoothing Bio-Cellulose Second Skin Eye Masks (full size i.e. 2 pairs worth £8.50). These are the thinest and most skin-like under eye masks that I have ever come across – you cannot feel them on you at all. These masks are infused with a serum (that contains coconut juice, Liqorice Root Extract and Chamomile) that’s extremely hydrating, soothing, line-smoothing and brightening. They are an all-round multi-tasker and they work really well.
Finally, there are two more skincare products. The Skin Chemists 24-Hour Aqua Repair Facial Serum is full-size (worth £39) – amazing – and is a gentle, hydrating serum that contains Rose Water to calm and soothe the skin, the moisturising anti-inflammatory Allantonin and the soothing Aloe Vera. You can use it as a serum or as an on-the-go hydration boost. This is a simple product that works brilliantly. It’s suitable for all skin types too.
There’s also a travel-size sample of Caudalie’s Vine[Activ] 3-in-1 Moisturiser (full size worth £32). It’s an anti-pollution shield (it’s packed with antioxident polyphenols amongst other good things) and also a light moisturiser. It minimises the appearance of wrinkles and makes skin appear healthy and radiant too. Perfect for those who live or work in the city!
