Apologies that you didn’t get an April favourites post, but I went to Monte Carlo and then ended up in hospital with a broken knee just after I got home. Here though, are the beauty products that I’ve been relying on throughout both April and May.
Let’s start with makeup. I love the Bobbi Brown Limited Edition Havana Brights Illuminating Cheek Palette in Peach (£35 from Bobbi Brown). It contains a mid-toned shimmery bronzer, a matte rose pink blush and a gold highlighter; making it perfect for travel. It also comes in an amazing neon case with a good mirror. The formula of these powder products are highly pigmented and very blendable. If your skin is darker than mine, there is a deeper selection of shades in their Guava palette.
I have also been loving the fairly new Physicians Formula #InstaReady Full Coverage Concealer ($10.95 from Ulta). There are three shades – Fair, Light and Medium. I have Fair and it’s great for both under-eye and blemish coverage. You only need a very small amount of this stuff as it’s super-high coverage. It comes with a mini beauty blender sponge and this is how I like to apply it as it gives a flawless finish. It also contains SPF 30, which is great.
The new Murad MattEffect Blotting Perfector (£32 from Murad) is a great way to mattify your makeup look on-the-go. It’s really fun to use too. It’s a cushion compact that comes with a sponge so that you can cool and mattify your face with a liquid product instead of a powder. It’s a translucent liquid-to-powder formula that doesn’t move your makeup, absorbs oil, minimises the appearance of pores and dries matte. It also has some great skin care benefits too – it has antioxident benefits (via the Pomegranate Extract ingredient), and detoxifies the skin (via its French Green Clay Extract). It’s key ingredient is Marshmallow Powder, which softens the skin and absorbs the oil without drying out the skin. This works really well and feels like a treat to use.
Lastly, I have a makeup/skincare product for the body that I’ve been adoring. The Charlotte Tilbury Supermodel Body Highlighter (£45 from Charlotte Tilbury) is a stunning liquid body bronzer, packed full of shimmer and light-reflecting particles, that’s dispensed via a rollerball. I’ve been using this on my pasty white legs – both on the beach at Monte Carlo and while my leg is in its horrible leg brace. It doesn’t ‘tan’ your skin, but just gives it a healthy, luminous glow. This product is a real confidence booster and i’ve come to rely on it whenever I bare my legs. It also has skincare benefits – caffeine to
reduce puffiness, a mushroom extract to preserve collagen fibres and Aloe Vera to soothe the skin.
Now onto skincare. I love the new Liz Earle Superskin Superlip Balm (£15 from Boots). This balm has the texture of Carmex; but has a refreshing and tingly zesty fruit scent. It instantly softens, smoothes and conditions the lips. There’s Dragon’s Blood Extract from the Dragon’s Blood Tree is Peru, to prevent dryness; Alaria Esculenta Extract (a sea kelp) to plump; Pomegranate Seed Oil to nourish; and Argan Oil and Shea Butter to moisturise. You only need to apply a little bit of this for it to do its job well, so a tube will last you ages.
I’ve also been loving a Korean beauty product that my friend Minnie sent me from the US. The Soy BIO+ Fermented Mist is a fine facial mist that’s made from fermented soy black beans. It doesn’t really have a scent, but is very refreshing and hydrating. It’s also great at bringing down sunburn, helping to detoxify the skin and protecting the skin from UV damage.
Finally, I love this micellar milk cleanser that I picked up in Sephora when I was in LA earlier this year. It does the same job as a micellar water, but is creamier and a lot more nourishing on the skin. The Sephora Micellar Cleansing Milk in Rose ($7.50 from Sephora) has such a strong rose scent that really relaxes me. If you don’t like this, you might want to choose one of the other scents available. I apply this to a cotton pad and this use it to remove my makeup when i’m on-the-go or feeling very lazy. My skin feels really moisturised after using this.
Have you tried any of these products?
