Oh man, I hate having to write this post. I don’t usually cover products that I don’t like, but since I usually rave about Sleek MakeUP, I thought I should share my thoughts on this collection with you. These are the only launches from Sleek that I haven’t praised for as long as I can remember. It is also the launch that I was most excited for.
This collection is a reaction to the current trend for holographic highlighters and metallic lips. The Sleek MakeUP Distorted Dreams Highlighter Palette* is £12 and will be available from 31st May. I am highlighter-obsessed and I was so excited by the look of this palette. In theory, it should be perfect, as the colour way is fantastic. The formula of these irridescent, duo-chrome shades, however, are awful.
It was so hard to get a smooth, even swatch with these – as soon as you try to blend the cream shades or apply another layer, it just lifts off what you did before. A nightmare if you’ve just applied a perfect base of foundation. The formula of the cream shades are very oily and you just don’t get a good finish with them. Similarly, the powders aren’t up to the quality of Sleek’s other powder highlighters in earlier palettes – they don’t blend well and don’t apply smoothly or evenly.
Also in the collection, are three metallic matte liquid lipsticks. Sadly the formula of these is terrible too. They don’t apply evenly and you need to do quite a few coats to get a finish that looks decent. They are also very drying on the lips. The Sleek MakeUP Matte Me Metallic Lip Creams* will be priced around £4.99 and will also be available at the end of the month.
The three new shades are Rusted Rose (a darker pink), Roman Coffee (a gold) and Volcanic (a taupe). I don’t like any of them, but I’m keen to hear if they work for you. I do love Sleek MakeUP – I’m just so disappointed in this collection.
