Yesterday I went along to the luxurious Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow for a Wimbledon-themed afternoon tea* (£29 per person), and I wanted to share it with you as it’s so clever and looks amazing.
The afternoon teas at this 5-star Glasgow hotel are already renowned, but this week they are doing Wimbledon-themed ones until the tournament ends on Sunday (16th July). If you are a tennis fan, or just a fan of tasty, good looking cakes, you need to experience this – in picture form at the very least.
The location for afternoon tea at Blythswood Square is their The Salon – a chic, relaxing space with beautiful high ceilings. It’s intimate, but you don’t feel as if people can hear your conversations or are sitting too close. The staff are also so friendly and gently attentive – but you don’t feel like they are constantly interupting.
Their Wimbledon afternoon tea that’s running this week is a themed version of their regular afternoon tea, and it’s done with such style. At the bottom you have a selection of British sandwiches and savoury bites – a triple layer smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, a triple layer beef and horseradish sandwich, a ham and mustard sandwich, a miniature egg mayonnaise roll, and a miniature cheese and onion quiche.
On the middle section of the cake tower there are two miniature scones (one plain and one fruit) with strawberry jam and clotted cream, and on the top section are all the Wimbledon-themed miniature cakes and sweet treats. There’s a lovely strawberry tart (got to have strawberries at Wimbledon), and an AMAZING white chocolate and lemon chocolate truffle that’s decorated to look like a tennis ball and comes sitting on a bed of watercress ‘grass’. There’s also a slice of Victoria Sponge that’s Pistachio-coloured and decorated with icing court lines and a royal icing tennis racket. Add to this a rich chocolate macaron that has the Wimbledon logo on it, and a raspberry mousse and cotton candy wafer cone trophy, and you’ll want to look at it for ever.
I wore a black and white maxi dress, with a black, rose-embroidered denim jacket and a colourful, studded floral bag. I kept my makeup very simple and glowy. I had a lovely afternoon full of laughs, chatter, drinks and good food. Blythswood Square Hotel is the perfect place for a long, girly catch-up. There’s no rushing you out here.
The hotel itself is just beautiful, so if you ever get the chance to visit, do! Have you stayed or eaten here before?
I was given this afternoon tea complimentary, but all opinions are my own.
