I’ve been thinking about changing from brown hair to red for over a year now – since I watched Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World. Then I discovered stunning US influencer Allison McNamara on Instagram, developed a bit of a girl crush, and sent her photograph to the team at Macs Hair Studio in Glasgow with the instruction to re-create it.
I went in to Macs Hair Studio* with a worn brown shade that had left-over bits of Balayage at the bottom. The plan was to lift my hair colour a bit with bleach before applying the red dye, but when my stylish Sophie saw how light my hair was already, we were able to go straight to the dye application stage.
Macs Hair Studio, on Cresswell Lane in the west end, has just been refurbished – it looks amazing. Fresh, bright and light, with ivy up the walls and huge vintage-framed mirrors. It’s in such a nice location too – a quaint little lane full of vintage stores and coffee shops.
At first, when the dye was being applied, the colour looked a little scary and ‘ginger’; but it’s always a lot more intense before it’s washed out. I had 30 minutes of chill time with some magazines while the dye developed on my hair; before getting a lovely head massage, wash and condition.
Once it was dry, I adored the colour – there’s so many different dimensions to it. I knew I wanted some length off of my hair (a la Bryce Dallas Howard in Jurassic World), so Sophie took about an inch off all the way round my head, keeping it all the same length. I like it sitting just past my chin and think this is an great autumn look.
Finally, Sophie handed over to Skye to style my hair and give it some beach-y texture with straighteners and a hair wand. This is my favourite look for my hair, but I find it so hard to do by myself.
I’m really happy with my hair and I can’t thank the team at Macs Hair Studio enough. I’ll definitely be going back there as it’s such a happy and friendly salon, and is in a great location for post-pampering lunches!
My cut and colour was complimentary, but all opinions are my own.
