Last week, I headed to the Fort Kinnaird retail park in Edinburgh for a spooky Halloween day out. Fort Kinnaird has the only Homesense store in Scotland, so I’m sure you can tell how excited I was to be going.
Fort Kinnaird invited me along to check out what they had to offer – all with a spooky theme. I even wore my new Absolute Cult IT The Movie t-shirt (£13.99 from Absolute Cult). The first thing I did was head to the Customer Services centre, which is just past the Odeon cinema, to collect a voucher that I was kindly given for Homesense. At the moment, Homesense is packed full of Halloween decorations and autumn-scented candles. It’s a two-floor store and I spent a good amount of time in there exploring. I ended up deviating from the spooky theme of the day, and purchased four large Christmas tree-scented candles – pine tree, fir tree, Christmas forest – you get the idea.
After Homesense, it was time to head for dinner at Pizza Express. Their autumn menu is out now, so there are lots of seasonal choices if you are interested in these.
For starters, we shared a Garlic Bread with Mozzarella Cheese, and ‘Nduja Arancini (deep-fried risotto balls with spicy sausage and cheese). The Arancini was amazing and the pesto dip went perfectly with both these and the garlic bread. For our main courses, we both, of course, went for pizza. I had Romana Pollo Forza (chicken with smoked chilli, garlic oil, dried chilli flakes, red & yellow peppers, Roquito pepper, mozzarella and tomato, and finished with Gran Milano cheese, fresh parsley and chilli oil), and my guest had the Romana Padana (goat’s cheese, caramelised onion, spinach, red onion, tomato and garlic oil). We also had a side of the Polenta Chips – just because I wanted to know what they were like. They are extra fluffy and have a polenta coating which makes the outside crispy. Everything was delicious.
We then headed to the Odeon cinema for dessert (popcorn) and to see the film The Ritual. This movie tells the story of a group of men on a stag weekend who go hiking in Sweden and decide to take a shortcut through a forest. As you can imagine the forest has something very scary in it. The film was OK, but I wouldn’t recommend that you all rush out to see it. IT, on the other hand, is an amazing movie and I would definitely make the trip to see this on the big screen at the cinema.
You really could spend the whole day at Fort Kinnaird as the range of shops are amazing. They have an incredibly large Primark store! When we were driving back to Glasgow at night, we had Storm Orphelia to deal with; but it was definitely an adventure. Have you been to Fort Kinnaird before?
This was a complimentary trip, but all opinions are my own.
