I’m not a fan of Karl Lagerfeld as a person or designer – he has a terrible attitude towards plus-size bodies – but I was still excited to see his collaboration with Australian makeup brand ModelCo, as I knew that it would have to be something pretty good before he would put his name to it. The guy does have a great sense of style. The collection is sleek and black, features his silhouette, and is fantastic quality.
I had been anticipating this collection for quite a while, then it landed on my doorstep as a surprise from Glossybox. Glossybox UK currently have a limited edition Karl Lagerfeld X ModelCo beauty box* (£30, 0r £25 for Glossybox subscribers, from Glossybox). Getting this box is a great way to try out key pieces from the collection – some in miniature and some full-size – without investing too much money. You don’t get as fun packaging/cute design elements as you get from the main collection, but it still looks great. You only get one blusher (worth £31) in the box (full-size), but I also had another shade from elsewhere, and wanted to share this with you too. The shade that you get in the box is the one on the left – Rose Pink – but I also have the shade on the right – Rose Beige. Both are really pretty baked blushers that are decently pigmented and blend nicely. They have quite a lot of radiance to them, so some skin tones will be able to use this lighter shade as a highlighter.
Another full-size item that you get in the box, is the Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo Lip Liner in Red (worth £21). This is a nice, soft, matte liner that glides onto the lips and is extremely pigmented. It’s very much a pink-toned red, and in certain lights, it can look more pink than it does red. If you team it with the lipstick that you get in the box, however, you do get a lot more of a true red in finish. The lipstick is a mini version of the Lip Couture Lipstick in Red (full-size worth £20). It’s a really comfortable matte lipstick to wear, and it’s very long-lasting, as well as being very much stubborn in staying in place with the same vivacity as you applied it.
You also get a miniature lip gloss in the box – the Karl Lagerfeld + ModelCo Lip Gloss in Ramatuelle (full-size worth £22) is a gorgeous caramel shade, and it’s very rich in colour as well as being glossy. This is probably my favourite product in the box, as I am a nude lip and a lip gloss girl at heart. This gloss isn’t sticky and it really has a beautiful shine to it.
You also get a full-size black liquid eye-liner in the box (worth £21), although the liquid liner in the main collection has a cute Choupette cat stamper on the other end, so it’s not quite ‘full-size’. I think I would want the cat stamp, and i’m not even a cat person. The liner is so pigmented, and it glides on. It has an angled tip, so you can do a very thin line, or a thicker one. Once it’s on, it doesn’t smudge and it lasts all day. It’s water-resistant and a very true black in colour.
You are also supposed to get a full-size blush brush in the box (worth £22), but there wasn’t one in mine. I don’t know whether this is because my box was an early press sample, but it’s worth noting incase you have bought your box and don’t have one either.
If you want to pick up this box, you can get one from the Glossybox website, for just £30 (or £25 for exisiting Glossybox UK subscribers).
