It’s coming up to Christmas party season, so sparkling jewellery and accessories will be everywhere. Winter is also the season that I most enjoy wearing jewellery in – anything goes where ‘bling level’ is concerned, and jewellery can be a really interesting way to dress up simple hats, scarves and coats. I’ve put together a run-down of the key jewellery trends for this winter season.
Oversized Earrings
The trend for statement, oversized earrings is still going on, which is great, as i’ve built up quite a collection. Miu Miu and Tom Ford models rocked some gorgeous chandelier ones on the catwalk. If oversized earrings just aren’t your thing, or you have too small a head to be able to pull them off, getting the sparkliest studs you can, will help you to get onboard the bling train. There are some lovely F.Hinds sparkling star earrings for those who can’t give up their studs. If the big guns are up your street, everyone’s favourite high street department store, House of Fraser, have lots of beauties. You can check out how all the catwalk designers have styled oversized earrings on the Vogue UK site.Short But Snazzy Necklaces
The trend for necklaces this season, is to wear them short (just at point your neck meets your decolletage), chunky and jewelled. Think about some of the pieces from your Nan’s old costume jewellery stash. Louis Vuitton, Alexander McQueen and Chanel showcased this trend best on their models this season, John Lewis & Partners, actually have some really nice jewelled and crystal statement necklaces, and they also stock some from the brand J.Crew too – head to your nearest branch to have a look.Bling Bling Cocktail Rings
Bottega Veneta models were adorned with statement jewelled cocktail rings at their AW18 shows. The bigger and more elaborate the better. A single statement ring on each hand is the order of the day this season, compared to the small stacking rings that were popular in the summer. You can buy some great independent designer cocktail rings from Etsy – there’s such a wide variety available, that you are sure to find a few that suit your style. I love brightly coloured cocktail rings, as they can really add a great contrast to an outfit – you don’t have to match! The Standard newspaper highlighted some stunning rings earlier this year.Wrist Stacks
Bracelets, this season, are meant to be stacked. One is just not enough. Again, the most ostentatious the better, like the models at Chanel and Christian Dior showcased. The difference between the luxurious, embellished bracelets at Chanel, and the simpler, more casual tie woven bracelets at Christian Dior is quite stark; but both were layered to create a busy look on the wrist. If sparkle is your game, you’ll want to head to the glitz of Butler & Wilson for ideal costume jewellery bracelets.
If you love jewellery, this is definitely the season to adorn yourself with your most fabulous pieces. AW18 is not about being shy when it comes to style.
