It’s Face Mask Friday time! The masks that I’m talking about today are from the new masqueBAR Black Gold Collection – a very chic range of three single-use masks. There are two sheet masks and one peel off mask.
The masks in the new collection, as you will have probably guessed from the name, contain charcoal and 24K gold; both of which are thought to have significant skincare benefits.
The first sheet mask is a standard fibre sheet mask, but is infused with 24K gold flakes. I don’t think gold delivered via this method will actually have a skin brightening effect, but it looks pretty and makes you feel like you are really pampering yourself. The charcoal powder helps to draw out impurities from the skin, and other ingredients such as Glycerin, Pearl Extract and Bamboo Leaf, means this mask will leave your skin feeling and looking cleaner, more refreshed, radiant, plump, soft and hydrated. I like this mask and it’s one I would use again, but at £3.99, it’s not anywhere near the top of the list of masks that I would reach for first I’m afraid. The second sheet mask is a gold foil version of the fibre sheet mask. One side (the outer side) is covered with a cool-looking gold foil; thought to stop any of the serum from evaporating so that more is absorbed by the skin. It’s very much like the other mask, but this one feels a bit more soothing on the skin – probably from the Linseed (a calming, anti-inflammatory flax seed) and is redness-reducing Lavender Flower Water ingredients. It’s the same price (£3.99) and I think it works more efficiently than the fibre mask. If you have a choice of the two, go for this one.
The third mask in the collection comes in a multi-use tube (£9.99), or a single-use sachet. It’s a peel-off mask, and whilst I am not a fan of these (they are terrible for your skin), this one is gentler in removing than most others I’ve tried. It’s important to just apply this to a couple of areas of your face where clogged pores are most visible, NOT your whole face. A little bit on your chin or over your nose is fine. The charcoal will draw out what’s in your pores, leaving them clean when you peel off the mask. It also contains cellulose and Hibiscus Flower Extract to draw toxins from the skin. I don’t have clogged pores, so it s hard for me to test this. I also can’t comment on the brightening effect of the gold, as I would never apply this to the areas of the face where you would most notice this effect. For a peel-off mask, it’s quite gentle; which is more than I can say for most of them.
