Kate Somerville is a brand that i’ve been wanting to try for a long time, but hadn’t quite got around to. Kate Somerville is an aestitician, and her brand based in LA. This year they made the leap over the pond to Space NK stores in the UK. A couple of months ago, I went along to a launch event and then the brand kindly sent me the products that I was interested in.Kate started off her career in plastic surgeon’s offices in the US, so she really got to learn a lot about skin, and in particular, how skin heals itself. She was also taught all about lasers and peels, and did a lot of injectible procedures herself. She found that a lot of her clients couldn’t use a lot of mainstream skincare products due to the treatments they were having, so she teamed up with a scientist to make her own fresh products for her clients, often mixed right infront of them. In 2004, Kate then opened her own clinic in Los Angeles, already having a lot of celebrity clients. This woman really knows her stuff, and products are still born from a client’s skin needs and are tested out on her clients.
Kate Somerville DermalQuench Wrinkle Warrior* – £83, Space NK
This product requires a bit of attention when it comes to how to use this. Don’t spray it on your face like I did – your skin won’t thank you for it. Instead, spray a small amount onto your finger tips then massage onto your skin. When you spray the product, it’s unique formula is activated, so that you are getting super active ingredients and a lot of hydration and oxygen for your skin. It’s designed to tackle the visible signs of ageing – wrinkles, lines, crow’s feet – as it delivers immediate and long-term hydration to plump the skin (via tri-molecule Hyaluronic Acid), as well as also improving skin’s elasticity and firmness. As well as Hyaluronic Acid, it also contains Polyglutamic Acid, which increases 4X more skin moisturisation than Hyaluronic Acid alone. There’s also some Sichuan Pepper Extract in there (to instantly reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles), as well as powerful antioxidant Soybean Extract.Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior Pink Plumping Mask* – £48, Space NK
Like all of Kate’s DermalQuench products, this is all about hydration and a high quality Hyaluronic Acid ingredient. Apart from the fact that this mask looks really pretty and fun, it’s also very effective too. It’s designed to hydrate the skin to plump and smooth it and reduce lines and wrinkles. I find this mask very cooling, so it’s a great one for the warmer months coming up. You apply an even layer to damp skin and leave for 10 minutes, up to 3 times per week. There’s hydrating tri-molecule Hyaluronic Acid in there, so it will penetrate deep into the skin due to the varying molecule sizes. There’s also Apple Fruit Extract to aid hydration, as well as Red Algae to offer long-lasting moisturisation. This leaves my skin plump, smooth, soft and more youthful and healthy in appearance.Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Gentle* – £55, Space NK
This product will exfoliate your skin in 2 minutes. It’s a physical and a chemical exfoliator, and is designed to be used as both a scrub and a mask. This is an award-winning cult product, so it was one that I was very keen to try. The gentle version is one that can be used even on sensitive skin. It gives you a radiant complexion by removing dead skin cells, improves skin texture and tone through exfoliation, and it reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles by hydrating the skin. You use this treatment up to twice per week – you apply a thin, even layer to damp face, massage in a circular motion for 30 seconds, then leave on for 1 minute. It’s super quick and has great results. The chemical and physical exfoliators are Lactic Acid plus Natural Papaya, Pineapple, and Pumpkin Enzymes. There is also hydrating and soothing Vitamin E and Aloe Vera, plus moisture-attracting Honey. There is also Vitamin E to work on skin discolouration, and a range of natural oils to improve skin tone.Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturising Cream* – £55, Space NK
The pump lid means that no air is getting into this product at all, keeping the ingredients stable. This daily moisturiser is gentle, soothing and good for people with redness, acne or dry skin or sensitive skin. It’s incredibly light and fluid, but really packs a moisturising punch. It contains natural milk proteins, plus Lactose to soothe and moisturise. There’s also Jojoba and Avocado to hydrate and condition, natural Aloe to soothe, and natural antioxidants Vitamin E and Grape Seed Oil to moisturise and protect skin from free radicals. This is just a really effective moisturiser that absorbs into the skin well and is a great product to use on top of all those active serums.
I’m so impressed by the Kate Somerville brand, and i’ve only just scratched the surface. I can’t wait to discover more great products!
