It’s time for Face Mask Friday again. This week, i’m reviewing the L’Occitane Aqua Réotier Overnight Mineral Moisture Mask* (£32 from L’Occitane), which is a new offering from the brand. It’s a hydrating gel mask that can be used for a quick moisture boost, or for a deeper overnight treatment.
The mask is enriched with mineral-rich Réotier water, from the Réotier spring in Provence. This water has a very high concentration of calcium – 10 times more than any other French thermal spring waters. The calcium in this mask allows your skin to keep hold of the moisture the mask puts into your skin, as it helps your skin to maintain it’s natural barrier function. The mask also contains the humectant Glycerin, which is a moisture-binding ingredient that attracts moisture to the skin. In addition to this, there is also a high concentration of that wonderful skin hydrator Hyaluronic Acid. The mask feels very cooling on the skin, and it feels instantly softer and plumper on application. You can use it as a 10-minute moisture shot for the skin, or as a more intense overnight moisturising treatment. The gel is thicker than you would expect, but it’s still light. It feels like it contains a silicone smoothing element when you apply it (it doesn’t), as you can feel that it creates a soft, smooth barrier between your skin and the air around you; allowing your skin to draw in all the moisture from the mask. With my skin, I don’t really get any greater benefits through leaving the mask on overnight, compared to leaving it on for 10 minutes. As a fast boost of moisture for your skin that plumps and smoothes it, I think this mask works really well and i’ve been enjoying using it multiple times per week.
It will be a great mask to use over the upcoming summer months after days in the sun, as it cools and soothes. It also smells very ocean spa-like too. If you don’t want to invest £32 in this mask until you’ve tried it, L’Occitane are selling single-use pods of this mask for £4.50 each – a great way to try out the mask or to travel with the mask (as the glass jar the full-size is in is rather heavy).
