As you’ll know if you follow me in social media, alongside this blog and related work, I also work in TV and film production. I’ve just finished on an HBO US drama, and i’ve been both office and set based. I like a work wardrobe that’s simple and comfortable. I love colour, so I love to take advantage of the summer season, by introducing more of it into my work wardrobe. I wanted to share the look and feel of my current work style with you. It’s very much a weekend brunch look too.Comfort comes first when I’m choosing shoes. My days of wearing heels for any length of time are long gone. I love to team stylish trainers/sneakers with smarter dresses and skirts for work. I can move around quickly in them, and as long as they are fairly smart, I think it’s a great look. I’m currently lusting after the Air & Grace Leopard Print Trainers (£169) and the Converse Low Star Moon Particle Leather Trainers Exclusive from Office (£59.99).
When it comes to handbags, I always look for something that’s both practical and stylish. I also want a bag that’s made well and is high-quality, as my bags get thrown all over the place and stuffed full. One store that has great work bags for me is Radley. Most of the time I go for a classic black or nude leather bag, but in the summer, it’s nice to add a pop of colour to your work wardrobe. I love the Radley Arlington Court Bag in Smoke Blue (£209) as it’s roomy, but not too big that things get lost in it and it gets annoying. Compartments are your friend!
Printed smock dresses and maxi dresss/skirts that I can just throw on, but look very chic, is my go-to work look during the warmer month of the years. The Erin Dress from Ghost (now £66.50) is just stunning, and I also love the statement Burning Bright Lace Midi Dress from Sister Jane – a great store for pretty day dresses.
I’m also really into headbands at the moment. It’s a nice way to wear my hair down, but still keep it away from my face. I also love that it’s another way to add an additional pop of colour, some embellishments, or a contrasting print to my outfit. Online store Coco Boo Loves has some stunning and affordable headbands. You could also tie a skinny scarf around your head as an alternative to a structured headband.
I think that unless you have a strict dress code, you should be comfortable at work and be able to express your own style. Obviously if you work in a very corporate office, this style won’t be suitable; but it’s perfect for anyone in the creative industries. Print and colour is what i’m obsessed with right now. Don’t be afraid to mix and clash different prints too. Play around until you find pieces that work for you.
