I think that more often than not, people use sheet masks at night as a way to wind down and pamper themselves. I often use sheet masks at night, but I have also frequently used them in the mornings for as long as I can remember. I’m not a fan of ‘primers’, but I often like to use a hydrating or brightening sheet mask prior to doing my makeup, as I find this gives me the best base possible. French skincare brand Payot have brought out a collection of sheet masks designed to be used in the mornings – to perfect your skin for the day ahead, or repair your skin from the night before.
There are five morning sheet masks that Payot have brought out, and I’ve been testing three of them – the Look Younger mask (with plumping and lifting effects); the Hangover mask (that detoxifies and adds radiance); and the Teen Dream mask (with purifying and pore minimising effects). The other two masks available are the Winter is Coming mask (to comfort and nourish) and the Water Power mask (to hydrate and plump). They are all designed to be worn for just 15 minutes, so that you can squeeze them into your morning routine before going to work. They are also eco-friendly, so you don’t have to worry about disposing of them as they are made with Lyocell fabric, which is entirely plant-based.The Look Younger mask (£8.18 for 2 from Cocooncenter) helps to diminish fine lines by hydrating the skin to plump it. It also has a lifting effect; making your skin look more youthful and radiant. These masks are scented, so if you have very sensitive skin, they may not suit your needs. I love the scent – pear and white rose – and it makes me look forward to applying the next one. This mask’s key ingredient is Green Tea Extract, which is an antioxidant that helps to repair and protect your skin cells. It also helps dull skin look brighter and healthier. Green tea also has anti-inflammatory properties to lessen skin irritation and soothe. As well as this, it’s also a great moisturiser.
The Hangover mask (£8.18 from Cocooncenter), not surprisingly, makes you look less hungover and tired. Perfect if you’ve had a bit of a wild time on a school night. It has a delightful peach scent, and it’s packed with nourishing vitamins to help your skin recover and look more radiant. It’s hero ingredient Goji Berry, is full of Vitamin C, to brighten and add radiance. They also contain beta-sitosterol, which is a powerful anti-inflammatory that lessens puffy or red skin. There’s also a lot of different amino acids in Goji Berries, which are the building blocks of protein that improve skin hydration, give your skin nutrition and repair and prevent damage.
The Teen Dream mask (£8.18 from Cocooncenter) is for anyone who suffers from breakouts. It helps to tighten pores, and treat those breakouts with Tea Tree Oil. It has a raspberry and rose scent; my favourite scent of the three i’ve tried. Tea Tree Extract is an anti-inflammatory and is also antimicrobial. It’s calms redness and swelling, so is great for acne and breakouts as it will help make your skin look less ‘angry’ and aids in killing bad bacteria too.
I hope the masking in the morning thing really catches on, as it makes your makeup sit and last so much better, due to the fact your skin is plump and hydrated. You also get that beautiful dewy glow. It’s worth waking up 15 minutes earlier for, I promise.
