This time of year can really take its toll on your skin, especially with all the storms we’ve been having recently. It’s snowing one minute and raining the next, and our skin doesn’t know whether it’s coming or going. The harsh, cold winds (and the indoor heating that you put on to compensate) can really dry out your skin and give it a real battering. It’s important that you pay extra attention to your skin at the moment, so i’ve put together my tips to keep your face looking plump, healthy and glowing.

Over the last year, i’ve really adopted the minimal makeup look for everyday. I’ve been focussing on keeping my skin hydrated and smooth, with glowing cheekbones and rosy cheeks, and neat but full eyebrows. I’ve not been bothering with my eyes (except a lash tint every 6 weeks), and i’ve only been wearing a gloss or a light nude colour on my lips. It’s a bare, natural, dewy and happy look for winter, so i’ll be continuing with this every day. Except a special occassion when i’ll bring out the glitter!Bring out the big guns
I, luckily, have never suffered with cold sores; but working in TV, it’s a frequent complaint I hear from crews working outside, or inside with weakened immune systems from winter viruses. HERPOtherm®* is a state-of-the-art (but affordable) medical device to tackle those dreaded cold sores. If you use it early enough, it can prevent the development of cold sore blisters, and if used after the blister has formed, it can lessen symptoms and fade up to 50% faster than if you use an ointment or cold sore patch. For more information on what cold sores are and why you get them, visit the NHS page. If you purchase HERPOtherm® on Amazon before 20th March, there is £5 off, making the device only £31.HERPOtherm® works by concentrating heat on the affected area, killing the herpes simplex virus beneath the skin before it emerges into a blister. Herpotherm® acts through local thermotherapy. It’s localised pulse of 51 degree heat on the affected area (for 3 seconds) can be sufficient to relieve symptoms. Once the heated pen is used on the spot where you feel that dreaded cold sore tingle, it can banish the virus that causes cold sores before the blister even develops. If you suffer from cold sores, this affordable device will help you treat them hundreds of times; making it much better value than a cream or other topical treatment. It’s super-handy, suitable for everyone to use, and can be easily popped into a handbag as it works via battery.
Choose a light coverage
Choosing a BB cream or a CC cream will moisturise your skin and add some light coverage too. It will allow a lot more of your natural skin to peek through, compared to a foundation. I like the subtle skin-perfecting tricks that a BB or CC cream can do, and I love to just wear these for normal days. I think they moisturise your skin a lot better than a foundation. I add some extra glow to my skin with Illamasqua’s Radiance Veil dabbed over my cheekbones, brow bones and cupid’s bow. This is a cream illuminator/highlighter that looks so natural but so beautiful. I then add some rosy blusher to the plump part of my cheeks, and i’m good to go. Using a cream blusher and a cream highlighter keeps my makeup looking dewy and natural. They also help my skin not to dry out. During the day I then just apply a lot of lip balm to stop my lips chapping, and groom my brows with a tinted brow gel. It’s all about looking naturally radiant and healthy.Look after your skin
It’s important that you keep your skin hydrated and awake. I like to do regular facial sheet masks and overnight hydration masks to keep my skin packed with moisture. The Origins Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask and the bio-cellulose sheet masks from Skin 689 (reviewed here) are great options. Keeping your skin’s moisture levels up, will help to fill out any fine lines to make your skin look smooth and plump. I also like to roller my skin with a cold, chilled jade roller to keep it looking awake and to work my facial muscles. Finish off with a rich moisturiser to give your skin all-day protection. It’s also important to look after your skin while you sleep, as the wrong pillowcases can damage your skin and cause sleep lines, which will undo all the hard work that your masks have done. Silk pillowcases and eye masks are best for sleeping on, as they don’t cause lines to form on your skin and there is no friction as your face rubs against the fabric. The silk pillowcases and eye masks from Jasmine Silk (see here) are great. Silk pillowcases and eye masks also help to keep moisture in your skin whilst you sleep.
