The idea behind PM skincare and ‘sleeping’ skincare products is that you apply them before going to sleep, so that they work their magic before you wake up in the morning. I’ve picked out five products that I adore and use all the time – from oils, to masks and treatments. Our skincare can work at its optimum when we are sleeping as it’s not subject to environmental pollution and aggressors.Murad Hydration Night Fix Enzyme Treatment*** – £60 from Murad
Think of this product as a ‘topper’ – the last one you apply before bed. It’s a light gel-cream that really hydrates the skin during the night, and fortifies the skin’s moisture barrier. Skin loses water 3 times faster at night, so this is a great product to combat against this. It encourages overnight skin repair and renewal with its peptides and enzymes, and skin looks plumper and more radiant when you wake up. It also has a lovely sleep-enducing scent.
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum – £76 from Space NK
This is so popular it even has its own day on Instagram amongst the skincare community – #framboosfriday. This serum is an exfoliating acid serum, with the AHA Glycolic Acid, as well as BHA acids – it’s a blend of glycolic, lactic, salicylic and citric acids. It chemically exfoliates the skin to tackle fine lines, wrinkles and discolouration, and it remove dead skin cells to boost radiance. It also reduces oiliness and the visibility of pores, and doesn’t dry skin out in the process. There’s also horse chestnut and white tea to calm and soothe the skin. This is a light serum that gives great results without the usual bad side effects of acids – dryness, dehydration and irritation.Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate*** – £40, Kiehls
This is a cult product for a reason. It has stood the test of time and remains at the top because it gives real results. This facial oil smells so relaxing, and it’s designed to be used as part of your PM skincare routine – after serums, but before moisturiser/overnight mask. It promotes the overnight recovery of your skin and replenishes it while you sleep. Skin feels plumper, firmer and more radiant when you wake. This 99.8% naturally-derived oil contains my hero moisturising and anti-inflammatory ingredient Squalene, as well as soothing Lavender Oil and Primrose Oil.
