A lot has happened between when I first published this post and now, in Coronavirus 2020. Our wedding hasn’t happened, but we are desperate to make new arrangements for late summer or autumn, and i’ll keep you all updated as things progress.
May 2020
I should have been married by now and currently on my honeymoon. Instead i’m sat on the couch with David, watching Netflix and thinking of all the yummy food we should be eating in the US right now. We were forced by the powers that be to cancel our wedding, reception lunch, honeymoon and also our evening reception post-honeymoon. It’s shit, we’ve both cried; BUT there are so many worse things going on in the world right now. We’ve just had to postpone our wedding. I don’t know when we are going to be allowed to have it as we aren’t even allowed at the moment to book a new date. We are using all the same suppliers and they are happy to just be given new dates. We ordered so many table decorations etc with dates on them though, so they will have to be bought again and reordered. We’ve resigned ourselves to the fact that we won’t be going to the US on our honeymoon this year – it’s very unlikely – so, the honeymoon will have to be next year, a long while after the actual wedding. We are actually changing our honeymoon now, as we think we deserve something extra! Again, we can’t book this yet either and the US isn’t even open to tourism.
My Maid-of-Honour and David cooked up a plan for her to come to the door on the day we were supposed to be getting married last week. I cried as it was such a lovely surprise and such a nice gesture. I couldn’t hug her and she couldn’t come in, but she left us a bag of beautiful gifts. She also wrote me an essay that made me cry again. We also got cards, flowers and treats delivered from other friends who were meant to be coming to the ceremony last week. I’m trying not to eat all the chocolate as I still have to fit into my extremely expensive dress! It has reinforced our knowledge that we have the most amazing people around us. David wrote me a note – ‘You are Mrs S***’… I don’t think it’s legal, but it will do for now!
November 2019
The wedding is booked for early May. We are getting married in a beautiful registry office with 15 guests, follow by an intimate lunch in a nearby private dining room. The theme of the restaurant for lunch is very Art Deco, so there will be lots of gold and green to match the room. I’ve already chosen all the favours, plus the place settings. All I need to do is order fresh floral table displays in blush pink shades – likely peonies. We will also have giant floral ‘D’ and ‘L’ letters on the bar. There are quite a few kids amongst the 15 guests, so we’ll also have a kid’s breakout booth where they can escape from the main table to colour in and do puzzles.I’ve been using this lovely wedding planner* (£22.99) from Caledona Design Co —- to keep track of everything. It’s so pretty and goes with my theme so well. There are sections for each month you get closer to the big day, with tips on what you should be getting in place. The budgeting section is also really helpful for the party we are planning for our wider friends and family after we get back from our honeymoon.
I haven’t chosen a dress yet, or even been looking, but in my head I know exactly what dress, shoes and other secret special touches I want. I’ve chosen my bridal fragrances with Jo Malone, which you can read about here, and i’ll also be partnering with a lovely brand for my makeup. I’ll be doing my own makeup with their products and then a hairdresser will be coming to do my hair. I’ll be staying at home the night before my wedding with my Maid of Honour, and David will be staying in a hotel with his Best Man. I’m so excited!
My Maid of Honour is my beautiful friend Ayden (aka hellorogue), who I love more than I can even put into words. I’m so happy to have her by my side when I’m choosing my dress, and with me the night before the wedding. I’m also so happy to have her beautiful family at the ceremony and lunch. Ayden gets me like nobody else and I know she’ll know exactly what to say the night before to keep me calm. The Our honeymoon is all booked. We are having 7 days in Walt Disney World, then a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. Unbelievably amazing and I am so excited to show David around Walt Disney World – one of my favourite places on Earth.
I am so lucky to be marrying this amazing, thoughtful, gorgeous and hilariously funny man who makes me laugh hysterically every day, and often cry too at his acts of kindness and love towards me. It’s me and him against the world, and I can’t wait for all our future adventures.
