The weeks are going in so fast, which is strange as most of us are stuck at home. I can’t believe that it’s time for a Face Mask Friday post again! This week it’s a Paula’s Choice mask that I got from the brand after I attended their virtual Zoom press event last month. It’s a gentle one that would suit even sensitive skin.
The Paula’s Choice Super Hydrate Overnight Mask* (£29 from Paula’s Choice) is a lovely, light mask that’s perfect for summer. It’s hydrating and soothing, and if you keep it in the fridge, it’s a wonderful cooling treat for your skin too. This is designed to be an overnight mask, but it’s very fluid in texture so I tend to lather it on during the day when i’m at home, and then use some of my thicker, more intensive overnight masks at bedtime instead. Paula’s Choice products have been created by founder Paula Begoun, but this mask has also been developed with skin therapist Annica Forsgren Kjellman. The texture of this is a milky gel. My skin literally drinks this is, until there is just a light filmy layer on your skin. It is designed to hydrate, soothe and reduce redness. The hero ingredient is Reishi Mushroom. The extracts from it (triterpenoids) are powerful anti-inflammatories that calm irritated skin and reduce redness.
Check out my review on another great hydrating mask – Vichy Liftactiv Hyalu review!
There is also powerful antioxident Arctic Cloudberry, which helps to protect the skin from environmental agressors – things that can cause skin irritation and redness. Finally, the last key ingredient is plant lipid Shea Butter. It draws moisture to the skin and locks it in. It also is a rich source of antioxidents. I love Shea Butter masks, but this is a texture unlike any i’ve tried. It doesn’t have a buttery feel to it at all, until you get to that ‘film on your skin’ stage where you can feel the residues of it. Normally Shea Butter masks are very rich in texture, but this is very light. I enjoy this as a day mask for a boost of hydration, or to soothe my skin when I have a breakout, but I don’t think it’s a powerful enough mask to be used as an overnight mask. It’s just too light for that. Let me know if you try this as I’d love to hear what you think.
This post contains press samples, but all opinions are my own.
