New brand Skin Glow London has launched with a very luxurious-looking hydrogel sheet mask. The packaging just draws you in like a you’re a magpie. It looks and feels very boujie. What it also does it immediately raise your expectations for what’s inside; but does this mask live up to those expectations?
The Skin Glow London Skin Glow Facial Treatment Mask* (£12.00 per mask from Skin Glow London) comes in two sections; said to help achieve a closer fit to the face. With the thick hydrogel that this is made from, it just gives you one additional piece to slip down your face. This isn’t an easy mask to keep on and it doesn’t mould to the contours of your face around your eyes and nose very well at all. It’s made from the most beautiful opaque, irridescent gel, but it only serves to emphasise the areas where this mask doesn’t fit well.Fit aside, this is a good mask in the performance stakes. The three key ingredients that the serum it is soaked in is infused with, is hydrating Hyaluronic Acid, brightening antioxidant Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory, radiance-boosting Turmeric. There’s also moisturising Glycerin that also shields skin from environmental irritation; pore-minimising, texture-refining Niacinamide; Hydrolyzed Collagen aka Collagen peptides (which actually haven’t been proven to do anything other than just moisturise); and Retinol (although so far down the ingredients list that it’s not going to have much effect). This mask will moisturise and it will add glow – both from the healthy, plump look of the skin as a result of the hydration, and from the tone brightening Vitamin C and Turmeric. Don’t expect any anti-ageing results from this mask, or texture-refining results unless you use it every day.
This is a good mask; but there are far better out there for a quarter of the price. I like this mask and i’d use it again if I was given one, but it’s not worth anywhere near £12 to me. You can dress it up in gold foil and irridescence; but it’s what’s inside that counts. For a customer to purchase a premium mask like this more than once, it has got to really deliver better than its more affordable counterparts and it has got to be hassle-free to wear. This doesn’t tick either of those repeat customer boxes.
