Christmas is on the way which is a perfect excuse to have a declutter and remove some old items from your wardrobe and vanity. Over Christmas, you are sure to get some fashion and beauty items that can replace your old ones. If you tend to buy more than you declutter, your wardrobe will slowly be filling up – with things that you aren’t wearing anymore and that have been worn too much. Why not spend a few hours this week having a declutter and throwing away some of your old items? Below are five things typically hoarded by fashion and beauty lovers which you could get rid of in a declutter.
Get rid of old clothes
Over the years, do you find yourself collecting more and more clothes that your wardrobe is now overflowing? You are not alone; this happens to all of us. With different seasons, occasions and trends, new clothes are always needed and coveted. This means that nowyour wardrobe is getting too full, you will have to declutter to fit new items in. Get rid of some of the old clothes that you don’t wear anymore. Be strict with yourself; otherwise, you may find you don’t get rid of anything. If you want to make some money, you can always list them on Depop if they are in good condition. Worried you’re going to have to spend a fortune replacing old items? It’s easy to refresh your wardrobe on a budget if you’re clever!
Go through your old jewellery
Just like your clothes, your jewellery collection slowly grows to a stage where you have too much and certain items aren’t worn anymore. Maybe your style has changed, or they have gone out of fashion. Either way, they are not needed anymore and are just taking up space. If you have any valuable pieces, such as gold or diamonds, you could look into selling your diamond jewellery and making some extra money. You can then use this to buy some new clothes or new accessories. How many bags do you have?
Too many? That’s the answer I hear a lot! It’s hard to get rid of your bag collection, mostly if you have spent a lot on them. High-end designer bags are especially hard to part with as you know that their value will typically increase over time. However, if you’ve had some of your bags for years, and maybe not taken care of them as well as you should have, they do get scruffy. Maybe now is the time to declutter and get rid of them. If your designer bags are in good condition, you could always sell on a luxury pre-loved site. You can always ask for a new bag for your birthday or Christmas, or just treat yourself to a new one now that you’ve got more space.
Do you collect shoes without meaning to?
Have a look in your shoe cupboard and count how many shoes you have? If you have a lot, then it’s time to throw some away. Start by locating damaged shoes that are scuffed or scratched, then work your way through the pairs which aren’t fashionable anymore. Be ruthless and if you have any doubt over whether you will wear them anymore, get rid! Remember, you can always buy more and as mentioned above, ask for some as your Christmas presents.Do you use all of your makeup or fragrance collection?
Makeup and perfume is another one of those things that people tend to collect over time. If it’s nearly finished, you don’t wear it anymore, or it has been opened for a long time, toss it. Research makeup expiry dates, so you know when you should ideally replace items. I wouldn’t be concerned with having powder products (such as eyeshadow or blusher); it’s the cream and liquid ones you need to worry about. You can always replace the items you throw away with a new version. Maybe try something from a brand you’ve never tried before? The chances are you will have a few items that are just taking up space.
