One of the biggest dangers to our mental health and self confidence is ourselves and the way we see and talk to ourselves. If you want to learn how to love yourself again, I hope these are some helpful tips. Everyone has the right to do what they need to do to feel good about themselves.
In order to get through life, you really have to love yourself. You, after all, are the person you are going to be spending the most time with. Some people like battling with themselves in order to reach their potential, but there still needs to be a deep love for who you are at your core. We often equate love to a relationship, to friends, or to family, but you really do need to love yourself just as much. It’s the biggest relationship of your life. We see the Be Kind mantra everywhere, but many people are kind to everyone else except themselves.
To really love yourself, you need to train your brain to challenge and dismiss toxic thoughts. Think about the feelings you have for your partner or best friends – those same feelings should be felt for yourself too. Here are just a few things you can do to improve the way you view yourself and talk to yourself, and to give yourself credit each and every day.
Talk Positively About Yourself Whenever You Can
It’s so easy to put yourself down in this world. We live in a society with people that just want to drag you down in order to feel better about themselves; especially online. You can become brainwashed into thinking you’re not good enough based on the silly comments that uninformed people make. Talk to yourself every day as though you’re talking to a friend or family member. Big yourself up and tell yourself just how amazing you are. Affirmations for self-esteem can be really powerful. If you continue to do this every day, then you WILL feel a lot more confident and your self-love will increase. You could also try writing in a journal daily about the good things you did and achieved that day; just to remind yourself and commit to paper just how kind and competent you are.
Keep Yourself Energised and Ready For The Day
Whenever we get down about ourselves, it’s caused a lot of the time by chemicals in the brain; especially if you have mental health issues. You might be sick of hearing how beneficial exercising is, but it’s true that expending this energy releases happy hormones and actively improves your outlook. When you smash that spin class or run, you feel like you can take on the world. Similarly, doing too much can also make you tired and burnt out, so don’t neglect rest, water, and food as it’ll make your brain act in ways that will not be kind to you. Don’t underestimate just how much energy the brain needs in order to function properly.
Address Areas That Have Been Affecting Your Life
It’s easy for me to tell you that everyone is beautiful and that everyone should appreciate their own unique beauty without changing anything about themselves. It’s true of course, but i’ve never had any serious body hang ups, so I don’t understand the mindset of someone who has had issues with their physical appearance that go back decades. If you have been tormented since a teen about a flat chest, or bullied because of squint teeth, these body issues can really affect you. They can stop you feeling confident, which can stop you reaching your potential by being your best self. You might think you are against cosmetic surgery, but think about how the issues i’ve just mentioned could affect someone’s life. You need to make the changes to yourself that you need to make to make yourself happy. That goes for everything from getting braces to changing gender. Just make sure that you select a reputable British aesthetics clinic that you can go and visit for a preliminary meeting. Don’t travel abroad for treatment as if it goes wrong, the aftercare is not as good and neither are your rights for holding them accountable. Be who you want to be and be true to yourself.
Follow Your Passion(s)
In life, you will have things that you love and things that you desperately hate. Do your best to avoid the things you hate, as surrounding yourself in negativity will only make you miserable. If you follow your passions, then you’re going to enjoy the good days and the bad days. Try something you actually care about – it’s better to fail than to stay doing a job you have. Don’t live to regret the decisions you make now. If you don’t get satisfaction from your job or it doesn’t make you feel good about yourself, change career.
