If there’s one thing the UK has an abundance of, it’s beautiful outdoor spaces. If you made some resolutions during lockdown to get outside more or change your life, then there are a lot of different hobbies you can take up that get you outside into the fresh air.
Hiking
Walking is the ideal way to see the countryside as well as get fitter. There are hiking routes suitable for all fitness levels and you don’t need too much specialist equipment, just a good pair of hiking boots and suitable clothes. You could always take a picnic to enjoy on the way.
Fishing
Fishing is the biggest participation sport in the UK. More and more people are taking it up every day, including young people and females too. It’s an opportunity to spend time seeing the thousands of amazing rivers, streams and lakes in the UK. There are many types of fishing including bait fishing, fly fishing and sea fishing. It’s a great way to relax and perfect for those looking to reduce their stress levels. There is a learning curve in terms of what equipment you need and how to fish but there are plenty of resources to teach you. Look for quality equipment. CPS Tackle has the Nash X Series Rods for sale which are one of the most coveted.
Photography
Landscape and wildlife photography allows you to capture the great outdoors on your camera while enjoying nature. It’s also the opportunity to learn a new skill. Most photographers choose either digital or DSLR photography. You’ll need a camera, a range of lenses and accessories, as well as editing software to put the finishing touches on your masterpieces. The UK has so many different landscapes to explore, so you’ll never run out of inspiration.
Rowing
Why not combine fitness with some time on the water and take up rowing? There are rowing clubs all across the UK and you’re sure to be close to one of them. From single rowing to rowing in a team, you can make new friends as well as have a hobby that gets you out from behind your screen. It’s a great way to improve your fitness too!
Camping
Camping has had a complete style overhaul in the last ten years. No tiny tents in the middle of a waterlogged field (unless you want to). Now tents are no longer cramped and you can even have ones with multiple rooms. Camping sites are amazing too; with power, hot running water and many other handy amenities. You can even keep warm with a cosy camping heater. There are camping sites all over the country and many people even head to Europe in search of better weather and new scenery for their trips. If you’re not sure about making the leap to camping, you can try glamping instead. These are cosy little pods that are a great way to enjoy the countryside. Some of them even have hot tubs.
Whether it’s camping, photography, fishing or riding a bike – getting outdoors is great for your overall health and wellbeing. It can reduce your stress levels and blood pressure as well as lifting your mood. The great thing is that you will be able to find an outdoor hobby that is suited to your needs, whether that’s relaxing or getting fit.
