The world is becoming more accessible than ever before, but the need to drive everywhere is driving up that carbon footprint and making life difficult for those who do travel more environmentally. There has to be a better way to give back to the environment than drive, and there are. One of them is public transportation. Or, if you can walk somewhere, do, as it’s cheaer, easier and you get a little exercise in.
Skateboard or Roller Blade
The transport industry just isn’t doing enough to develop green means of travel, so if you aren’t a huge fan of walking, think about what is stereotypically thought of as toys or hobbies – roller skates or skateboards. Just make sure you choose one that’s built for heavy use for that every day commute. You can ask which skateboard wheels do you need to get your skateboard roadworthy and suitable for the journey you need it to take! Skateboarding is an great way to get yourself mobile and you can spend time learning to skateboard. Maneuvering around city centres just got a whole lot easier, because you’re skateboarding around people with ease and you’re not using any gas to do it. Plus, let’s not take away from the fact that it is a fantastic workout. We need to lower our carbon footprint as much as possible, and this is a great way to get around.
Cycling
Do as the Dutch do. This two-wheeled contraption (or four if you need help with balance) will help you to get anywhere you want to go with ease. There are more bicycles in the Netherlands than many other methods of transport. They use it for commuting, errands, exercise and more. A bicycle could be a quick and efficient way to get around a city. There are plenty of cities that now offer bicycles by the hour too. Before you rent your own bicycle, make sure that there are safe routes for you, with dedicated bike lanes, and one of the safest bike helmets on that market too! There are so many bicycle routes in the UK.
Walking
The simplest means of all, as I said, is to walk. The most eco-friendly way that you can travel is with the feet at the end of your legs. Most people use cars for even the shortest possible trips, but the best thing that you can do is stop, use your feet and walk where you need to go instead. You’d be surprised just how far you can get without actually using a car. Walking also gives you a chance to immerse yourself locally, stopping for coffees and chatting to locals as you go. It’s also the best exercise you can get and it really boosts your mood too.
Public Transport
Yes, this still has an environmental impact, but we often need to go further than our legs or a bicycle can take us. If this is the case, go public. That bus that trundles past every time you head to the supermarket is the ultimate car pool. You can get a bus, lower your carbon footprint and get where you want to go, all at the same time. Public transport isn’t just the bus either; it’s the train, the tram and even the ferry! You’d be surprised how many options there are out there for public transport. It’s not as simple at the moment with Covid concerns, but when the pandemic is over, you have very few excuses!
