Getting married is one of the major milestones in any person’s life. It is important to create memories that will last a lifetime and ensure that you have ways to keep the magic of your special day alive in years to come. There are plenty of ways that you can help keep the memories fresh and strong.
As with all things wedding-related, it is crucial that you prepare to ensure you can properly preserve your wedding memories. I want to share some of the best ways you can store memories from your wedding.
Make A Memory Box
A memory box is a simple but poignant way to make memories from your wedding day. First, you will need to find a suitable box. You could choose a box made from solid wood for a sturdy and classic look.
You could consider getting it engraved or painted to suit you and your new spouse’s tastes. You can then fill the box with photos from the day, souvenirs and trinkets. For instance, you could put the wedding topper, a dried flower from the bouquet, a piece of fabric from the dress, the groom’s pocket square, and much more into the box. We have a box from our wedding in August and we have all the non-perishable wedding favours in there, dress fabric, a few of my hair pins, our place settings etc.
Create A Wedding Scent
Our sense of smell is linked strongly to memory. By creating a scent for your wedding, you can ensure that you will be instantly transported back to that day any time you inhale the aroma. You could consider creating the scent yourself using essential oils or ask a professional to create the perfect scent using the different elements you need it to contain. Ensure it is made into a room spray or placed into a reed or electronic diffusers so that the scent suffuses into the setting of your wedding. Then, as the years go by, you can keep the fragrance and use it sparingly to evoke the strongest memories. If this sounds like too much work, just pick a scent you love. Our wedding reception was fragranced with Diptyque’s Baies.
Give The Guests Cameras
Photos are one of the best ways to create lasting memories. It is important to get pictures of as many angles and elements of the wedding as possible. While a professional wedding photographer is crucial, they can only capture so much of the event itself.
You could consider giving your guests disposable cameras to boost the number of photos taken of the day, or if you want to keep everything digital, create a social media hashtag and ask everyone to go crazy! While these will not be of the same quality as the professional images, they can still be an excellent way to boost the memories of the day.
Most people have cameras on their phones nowadays, so you could also consider making a photo album stored on the cloud in addition to giving your guests disposable cameras. You can give your guests a QR code wedding invitation or link to allow them to join the album and quickly and easily upload all of the pictures they snap throughout the day. That way it’s not as public as social media.
Create A Photobook
Wedding albums are a great way to keep your memories from the day, but you could consider going one step further and creating a wedding photo book. This is a fantastic way to keep your memories safe and allow you to look through them with ease. It is vital to choose a high-quality photobook – i’ve found that the photobooks from l photobox.co.uk are particularly great quality – to ensure your memories are stored in a way that is easy to reach for and flick through in years to come.
Plant Something On Your Wedding Day
Planting something on your wedding day can be a great way to remind yourselves of the special occasion. You could consider planting a sapling tree to watch it grow and thrive as your marriage does. For something easier to transport when moving house, you could consider a houseplant that you nurture and grow together. One of our favours were heart-shaped wildflower seed bombs.
Create An Ornamental Replica Of Your Cake
The cake is an essential part of any wedding. To preserve your memories of the cake in all its glory, you could consider having an ornamental replica made. You could do this yourself if you’re a bit crafty or hire someone to do so for you.
Preserve Your Bouquet Blooms
Preserving flowers is an art that has been popular for centuries. Preserving some blooms from the bouquet can be an excellent way to save the memories. There are many ways to preserve flowers, with pressing flowers being one of the most traditional. You don’t need any specialist equipment, just a couple of heavy books or your iron. You can then use the pressed flowers to create mementoes of the day, such as bookmarks or framing the blooms.
Bury A Time Capsule
Time capsules are a fun way to make the memories of your wedding day last. Similar to a memory box, you could consider adding various mementoes to your time capsule. You could include a wedding invitation, a bottle of wine or champagne, copies of the photos and a small sample of the scent used at the wedding. Bury it somewhere safe and plan to dig it up on one of your major milestone wedding anniversaries.
