HOW TO SAVE MONEY ON A TIGHT BUDGET

    January 1, 2022 in LIFESTYLE

No one wants to live payday to payday, but sometimes life isn’t easy, and that is when you need to make some adjustments. So many people don’t realise how much they are spending until they add it all up at the end of the month. If this sounds like you, then these tips will help you save money on a tight budget and keep track of your spending.

    Keep Track of Your Spending

Keeping track of your spending is one of the simplest ways to start saving money. By knowing where your money is going, you can begin to change your spending habits and save more money each month. There are several different ways to track your spending, including pen and paper budgeting and online budgeting tools. Find the method that works best for you and use it religiously to get an accurate picture of where your money is going each month.

Separate Wants From Needs & Reduce Your Spending

One way to reduce your spending is to separate wants from needs. When sticking to a tight budget, it’s essential to be realistic about what you can and cannot afford. Needs are things like food, shelter, and clothing – this is what you need to survive. Wants are things like entertainment, new clothes, or a luxury car – this includes items that may be nice or enjoyable, but aren’t necessary for your survival in life. Being able to distinguish between the two can help you save money without sacrificing all of the luxuries in life that may bring some happiness and joy into your daily routine.

A way to be smart with your finances and reduce your monthly bills is by reducing how much you spend overall each month. There are many ways to do this, for example, you can reduce your spending (and help the environment) by going for second-hand items instead of new – such as clothes from Oxfam or vintage shops, tech and phones from vendi, furniture from Gumtree, or books from WOB. You can also save a lot of money by reducing the number of nights out you go on each month, compromising your transport needs and cooking at home more often than eating out.

Avoid Using Credit To Pay Your Bills

Credit cards are one of the easiest ways to get into debt quickly. If you find yourself in a situation where you cannot afford to pay your monthly bills, it’s best to avoid using your credit card altogether and find another way to come up with the money needed. This could include borrowing money from friends or family, applying for a personal loan, or finding a side hustle that will bring in some extra cash each month. Credit cards only delay the problem to later on and cost you interest.

    Save Regularly

One of the best ways to save money on a tight budget is to save regularly. This could mean setting aside a fixed amount of money from every paycheck or simply depositing any extra cash you may have at the end of each month into a savings account. Doing this will help you build up your savings over time and provide you with a financial cushion in case of unexpected expenses down the road.

    Check Your Insurance Policies

Another way to save money is by checking your insurance policies and making sure you are getting the best deal possible. Reviewing your car, health, home, and pet insurance policies every few months can help ensure you are not paying too much for coverage you may not need. You can also shop around for different insurance providers to see if they offer a better deal than what you are currently paying.

Be Careful About Spending a Significant Amount of Money on Periodic Purchases

When it comes to budgeting, it’s essential to be mindful of how much you are spending each month on things that only happen once or twice a year. This includes Christmas gifts, birthday gifts, or costly vacations. Then, try to find cheaper alternatives when possible, or put off buying these items until you have saved up enough money to cover the cost in full.

    Cut Down on Takeaway Ordering

Takeaway food is one of the easiest ways to blow your budget quickly without realizing it. Cutting down on how often you order take-out food is a good idea, and it can even help your waistline at the same time. You may have to spend some extra time in the kitchen cooking more of your meals from scratch, but this will be worth it when you see just how much money you are saving each month by doing so.Netflix menuCut or Downgrade Your Services

If you find that your expenses are too high, one way to combat this is by cutting or downgrading your services. This could mean canceling cable, sticking to watching shows online on free catch-up services instead of Netflix, or downsizing your cell phone plan. You may also want to consider switching to a cheaper internet provider. Whatever the case may be, make sure you are still getting the essentials and not overspending in areas you don’t need to.

    Try Lowering Your Energy Bills

One of the easiest ways to save money each month is to lower your energy bills. You can do this by turning off lights and electronics when you’re not using them, setting your thermostat a few degrees cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer, and ensuring all appliances are correctly plugged into an outlet.

Another way to reduce your energy bill or your car insurance is to sign up for a programme that pays you back for using less energy or driving safely. For example, my husband is rewarded with cheaper car insurance because the insurance company tracks how he drives.

    Conclusion

When living on a tight budget, it’s essential to be creative and think of ways to save money on all aspects of your life. By using some or all of the tips mentioned in this post, you should be able to reduce your spending and put more money back in your pocket each month.
