I have Fibromyalgia and suffer with daily pain (amongst other things) that can often stop me from sleeping. If you have a chronic pain condition or an injury that continues to cause you pain, there are alternatives out there that could help, alongside or instead of painkillers. It’s about finding the combination that works for you. For me, I use painkillers alongside CBD and cold therapy.
Pain management is something we all must deal with throughout life. Whether it is the aches and pains of getting older or dealing with a chronic illness, it is important we find ways to manage our pain. Traditional pain relief methods like medication are, of course, proven to be effective, but they are not your only options. Alternative remedies to medication have been around for centuries, and there are also new alternative treatments that have been cropping up over the last few years. Of course, you should speak to a doctor to get their advice on what is best for you so that you can keep of top of your health.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture originated in ancient China and has since been adopted around the world as a pain relief treatment. Although its roots date back centuries, the treatment itself hasn’t changed too much and the method of treatment remains almost the same. Long thin needles are placed carefully into the skin during an acupuncture session to stimulate the sensory nerves. Although the process is completely harmless, many are put off by the appearance of acupuncture. Acupuncture is mainly used by those suffering from chronic or severe joint pain. If this is something you are suffering from, why not ask your doctor about acupuncture.
CBD Oil
CBD oil is a relatively new pain relief method that has gained an increase in popularity over the last decade. CBD is an extract of the cannabis plant and is often used for managing pain. The research into CBD is still in a primitive stage, but many people who use it claim it to be effective in easing pain caused by migraines and arthritis. It has been a godsend for my Fibromyalgia and there are so many brands I could recommend. At the moment i’m using Greenhaus. There are many ways you can take CBD oil, which is likely one of the reasons it is so popular. Some of the most used methods are vapes, gummies and oil drops. The versatility of CBD makes it accessible to everyone. You can even add CBD to a bath!
Chiropractic
Chiropractic treatment is a popular treatment to manage pain. Going to see a chiropractor was once reserved for those suffering from chronic pain, but nowadays anyone can have chiropractic treatment. With the increased use of mobile phones and prolonged hours sitting at a desk, many people now suffer from neck and back pain regularly. Seeing a chiropractor can be beneficial for this as they can identify the problems and adjust the body to ease the tension.
Therapeutic Massage
Massage therapy is another alternative pain remedy that has a rich history stemming from ancient China. Archaeologists who have studied early forms of writing in China found references to massage being used as a treatment for illnesses. The friction caused during a massage increases blood flow around the body which is thought to encourage healing and interrupt pain signals. Massage therapy can be beneficial for those suffering from chronic or short-term pain caused by exercise. Why not try massaging your own body?
