Impromptu trips away with friends or family create some of our most treasured memories. The spontaneity makes for an exciting trip and combats the anxiety of waiting for the getaway to finally come around. While last minute travel may be thrilling, these trips often don’t give you plenty of time to prepare, especially when it comes to what to pack. This post is a little checklist of things to think about when packing for a weekend away, so that you don’t leave anything essential behind.
Essential Tech
If you’re planning to leave the country for your weekend away, you’ll need to take a travel adapter if the country you are visiting uses a different type of plug. The last thing you want is to turn up at the place you’re staying to find that you can’t charge any of your devices. Don’t, obviously, forget your chargers either. It may also be worth investing in a power bank in case you need to charge during your trip and don’t have access to plug sockets.
Also, think about packing a travel hairdryer or travel straighteners too, if you use these tools to style your hair. Often there isn’t one if you are staying in a cottage, for example.
Multi-Use Clothes
As you’ll likely be taking a smaller suitcase or even just an overnight bag on your weekend getaway, you’ll want to save as much space as you can. Your clothes are going to be one of the biggest culprits for taking up space in your bag, so cutting out any clothes that aren’t essential is going to be a good idea. One way to do this is to only pack clothes that can be used in multiple situations, and then wear them as many times as is comfortable during the trip. For example, if you are going somewhere hot, instead of packing several cardigans or light jackets for nighttime, just pack one warm coverup and you can put it on each night if you are cold. My women’s Superdry hoodie or ‘Day Off’ slogan sweatshirt is great for this and I would even use it on the flight or car journey to and from your destination too!
Evening Wear
Even if you’re not planning on heading out to a fancy restaurant during your weekend away, you never know if those plans will change. In the event of this, you’ll much rather be prepared than not, so packing a nice outfit for a night out is highly recommended. A lightweight dress won’t take up too much room and you’ll be better off having it and not needing it than the alternative. Don’t forget to bring some jewellery with you too, and some chic shoes, to complete the look.
Travel Toiletries
As you can imagine, the beauty element of my packing is the most important! However, I don’t like to try to cram in lots of full-size products. For just a weekend away I like to pack just a couple of sheet masks and some sample sachets of skincare. If you need to take shampoo, conditioner and shower gel etc too, make sure these are travel-size so you aren’t wasting space. Remembering what toiletries to pack is an essential step to make sure you have everything you might need for the weather and destination you are heading too. This includes the basics such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel and shampoo; but there are a few other things that would be worth throwing in there, too, just in case – nail clippers, a reusable razor, and a sewing kit can be very handy, even if you’re only away for a few days.
