Ah, hair. Many of us have a love-hate relationship with it. Although we love it on our head and our eyebrows are, we seem to hate it everywhere else! Let’s be honest now…we’ve all likely gone to town with a razor, only to find we’ve cut ourselves, given ourselves razor burn, or worse, caused ingrown hairs!
If you’re exploring your hair removal options, here are some of the most popular…
Shaving
It might be the easiest and most cost-effective option, but shaving also has short results and if you don’t use a clean, fresh blade regularly, you may damage your skin. This is my method of hair removal as I find it the quickest and I do it with a hair conditioner instead of shaving gel as it makes my legs etc nice and silky soft. It helps the razor to glide better also.
Waxing
There are a number of different waxing methods, from simple wax strips to hot and cold waxes. Hot is the most common around the world, but with constant advances in the beauty world, there has been a rise in the use of hard wax, also known as “strip less waxing”. I get my eyebrows waxed, but that’s only because I HATE threading. It’s far too painful to wax anywhere else on your body as far as I’m concerned.
Typically, the wax is applied to your skin, a wax strip is place on top and once it’s hardened, is skilfully pulled off by your beautician! Although it’s a great method for getting that silky smooth feel you’re looking for, depending on your pain tolerance, it can be on the more painful side.
Epilation
If you can deal with a little discomfort, you may find this hair removal method more beneficial in the long run. Epilation works by using small discs that grip the hair follicles to pull them from their root. Always use a good quality epilator; although they’re expensive, they’re more likely to bring you better results!
It’s recommended that before you use your epilator, you exfoliate your skin first, as this helps to prevent ingrown hairs and leaves your skin feeling incredibly smooth! Depending on the thickness of your hair, you could have silky skin for up to 4 weeks, with the hairs growing back finer and finer each time. It’s just unbearably painful for me, and not an option i’d try again!
Laser removal
Essentially, laser hair removal is a procedure that uses concentrated beams of light to remove unwanted hair. Although for some it isn’t permanent, for many, the results are highly effective and long lasting.
Multiple treatments are needed and are often done over a course of 6-8 sessions. It’s important to allow around 8 weeks between treatments to ensure your hair enters the next growth cycle. Laser removal is most effective for people who have light skin but dark hair, although it can generally be used on all skin types!
Always do what’s best for you!
Remember, it’s important to choose an option that’s best for you. If you want longer lasting results, you may have to make a bigger investment, but if you’re budgeting, the cheaper options can still give you great short-term results and help you feel fabulous!
