The Sensai Cellular Performance Mask (£66 from Sensai) is on the pricier end of the scale for face masks, so it’s important to read reviews like this and do your research to determine whether you think it’s a mask that suits your skin and needs. Sensai is a luxury Japanese skincare brand, with carefully scientifically formulated products that are also inspired by nature and spirituality to create a beautiful relaxing and mindful experience when applying.
Sensai products all contain one key ingredient for the brand – Koishimaru Silk – a precious silk that used to be reserved purely for the Imperial Family of Japan. It’s light, soft and has a beautiful shine to it. It’s skincare benefits were discovered after noticing the hands of all of the silk weavers and how soft and smooth they felt. What it does is soothe, soften and promote the production of hydrating Hyaluronic Acid in the skin.
This mask has that incredible ingredient. It can be used as an overnght mask, or as a wipe-off treatment mask. It’s main effect is promoting that Hyaluronic Acid synthesis in both the dermal and epidermal skin layers to bring essential moisture to the skin. It plumps, soothes and softens the skin, so that it literally feels as ‘silky’ as possible. The mask also relies on Sensai’s Advanced CPX Vital Extract, which contains ingredients such as Collagen, to treat several signs of skin ageing; from loss of elasticity to dullness. There’s also other moisturising ingredients, such as Squalane, Glycerin and oils, as well as skin surface refining Niacinamide. For those with sensitive skin, it is worth noting that there is added fragrance and alcohol in there too. It’s a cream mask that’s fairly thick, and it has a real silky, rich feel to it; making it a joy to apply. With it’s feel and scent, it’s certainly a sensoral experience; so is perfect for relaxing pamper time. Indulgent notes of plum, orchid and jasmine make this feel like a really high end product and experience. Personally, I like to use this as an overnight mask. The reason being is that it’s quite an expensive face mask, so you want to get the most benefits from it as possible, and with ingredients such as Niacinamide, you want to leave that product on your skin for as long as possible to get the full benefit of these ingredients. If you have very oily or sensitive skin, this might be too much for your skin if left on overnight.
This is a really nice mask and it leaves your skin feeling so soft and hydrated. However, i’m not sure it’s worth the £66 price tag as its results can be garnered from much more affordable face masks and sheet masks. I enjoy this and will finish it, but it’s not one that I would re-purchase. For that amount, i’d want it to do more (scientifically) than it does. It’s a good mask though, so if you get the chance to try it, do.
