The Bioeffect EGF Imprinting Hydrogel Mask is a hydrating and plumping sheet mask made of hydrogel – a material that allows ingredients to be absorbed more by the skin than a basic fibre sheet mask. This mask is designed to deliver a serious moisture boost, but how does it perform?
This post contains press samples, but all opinions are my own.
The Bioeffect Imprinting Hydrogel Mask* (£70 ofr 6 from John, Bell & Croydon) comes in two parts – one for the upper face and one for the lower face. This allows you to position both in a way that best fits the size and shape of your face.
What’s the science behind it?
Bioeffect create the range with three Icelandic scientists after they discovered a plant-based way to produce Epidermal Growth Factors in barley plants. Basically, EGF is a signalling protein in our skin. It is vital to the production of collagen, elastic and Hyaluronic Acid. You find these naturally in the skin, but need boosted to maintain skin’s plump, firm and youthful appearance. As we age, the natural production of growth factor proteins starts to decrease. Cell turnover slows as we age, and skin sags and wrinkles. Creating plant-based EGFs in barley plants has allowed Bioeffect to use this technology to improve our skin too. Their extensive studies have revealed that topical application of barley EGFs has a positive effect on our skin’s appearance. They boost hydration levels and support the skin’s own production of collagen and elastin.
What’s in the Bioeffect EGF Imprinting Hydrogel Mask?
The key ingredient of the Bioeffect Imprinting Hydrogel Mask is the barley EGF; however the mask also contains other beneficial ingredients. Bioeffect put Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin and Icelandic Water in there to deeply moisturise the skin and keep that hydration locked in where it’s needed. The other nine ingredients all serve to help the Barley EGF to penetrate the skin and absorb fully. The mask feels so cooling and soothing and feels even more incredible applied straight from the fridge.
Bioeffect make this mask very beneficial on its own, but it is designed to be used alongside one of the Bioeffect EGF serums. This is because the Barley EGF prefers a moisture-rich environment. The longer you keep the surface of the skin is kept moist, the greater the effect of the mask will be. It’s recommended that you apply a layer of serum over the surface of your skin and then layer the mask on top. An amazing hydrating mask!
Bioeffect are a ‘clean beauty‘ brand. They put minimal ingredients in there. They are plant-based, and there is no fragrance, or silicone or alcohol in it. Bioeffect are also a green beauty brand and most of the components of their packaging is recyclable. I find this mask works really well. On its own, it’s a great soothing and hydrating mask. Layering over the Bioeffect EGF Day Serum really boosts this hydration. You know the Barley EGF is doing its best work under these conditions. These are relatively pricey masks, but when you consider the biotechnology involved, I’d say they are definitely worth it.
