GET YOUR DIGITAL DEVICES PREPARED FOR TRAVEL

Prepare your devices to be prepared for travel. Staying connected when abroad on holiday (or even travelling around the UK) can help you capture some unforgettable memories you can treasure and share with those back home. The last thing you want is for your devices to reach full capacity or encounter a system failure during your trip that deletes all of your pictures and data.

You also don’t want a device that’s unable to work correctly when needed as it’s important for safety and navigation too. This is your priority, to help you be ready for your trip whatever you may encounter. Read this post for how to prepare for travel with digital devices.

    Clean Up Memory and Storage

Run a system cleanup is your first task. Both on your mobile, and on any tablets and laptops you are taking. You can do this by accessing your settings control panels on each device, to clean Mac files and remove any unwanted files taking up space on your device. Each different manufacturer will have instructions on how best to do this while preserving the data you want to keep. This will free up space for all those photos you are going to take, but will also help your devices perform faster. At this stage, make sure all your helpful travel apps are installed too.

Enable Fingerprint Login to Be Prepared for Travel

For extra security, ensure you have enabled biometric access. This can be your fingerprint or facial recognition. This way, even if someone guesses your password, they will still need you to gain access to the device. It’s also a faster way for you to unlock your device if you want to take a quick photo. As a side note, also enabling location services will allow you to find a stolen or misplaced device by tracking its location if you become separated from any of your devices. Look up ‘Find My Phone’ on an iPhone, for example.

    Check Roaming

There has been changes to the use of mobile data abroad in EU. So it is best to check the rules regarding using data in your destination. Vital to avoid landing with a massive bill on your return. Similarly, the last thing you want to happen is to get to your destination to find that you can’t use your phone at all. Prepare for travel to avoid this! You could invest in a cheap pay-as-you-go sim, but it’s safer to ensure you have data roaming on your own. Wiith EE, you can buy a monthly add on that allows unlimited world data roaming for that month. You can then cancel it again.

Get Protection & Be Prepared for Travel

Chances are, when you travel, you will be doing activities you don’t usually do at home. From swimming to hiking, you should explore your destination in as many ways as you can. To help protect your devices, ensure you purchase durable cases/screen protectors to avoid excessive damage if anything happens. Similarly, insurance for your devices is vital.

    Get Insurance

Travel insurance is always a good idea to be prepared for travel, but insuring your devices for travel can be just as important. Especially if you are planning on undertaking adventurous activities. If you damage them or lose them, you can replace them for the small cost of your insurance excess. Always check your policy before paying for it to ensure it covers everything you need.

These days, being able to take your devices away with you is something most people take for granted. Taking steps to protect all of your devices can give you extra peace of mind & allow you to share your trip!
