Looking to update your wardrobe for the autumn season? This post is less concerned with following trends on a budget, which I wrote about previously, and more about your essential timeless autumn staples, such as knitwear and denim jeans. With the transition into A/W fashion, many people will be looking to make a few new purchases and this can be an expensive period as you natually wear more clothes than you do in summer and spring. In autumn and winter you are looking at coats, jackets, boots and accessories like hats and scarves. So, what can you do to save money when want to update your wardrobe on a budget? Here are a few ideas that should help.
Begin To Update Your Wardrobe on a Budget By Looking At What You Already Have… Re-Purpose Old Clothes
It is key to begin by going through your summer wardrobe and your existing autumn/winter wardrobe to see what you already have that you can repurpose, alter or repair. You will most likely be surprised at how many suitable items you already have that you can give a new lease of life or style them in a different way. Whether its repurposing them by getting trousers tailored so that they are a better fit, or styling summer dresses with tights and a cosy cashmere jumper over the top to make them suitable for a different season. It’s important to understand what you already have before you think about purchasing anything new.
Buy Quality Pieces That Will Last Years
If you do discover that you have a gap in your wardrobe and that you need to purchase something new, make sure it’s a timeless piece that’s not trend driven – a piece that you will be able to wear year after year that won’t go out of fashion. Then make sure that the piece you choose is the best quality you can get for your budget.Shop brands that are known for their longevity and quality craftsmanship. For example, for denim jeans I love Lands End jeans as they are such good quality but very affordable too. For knitwear, I love Dancing Leopard as their affordable knits look so luxurious and stay looking good season after season. Buying well is a great way to update your wardrobe on a budget.
Shop Around Online
When shopping online for clothes, it is always worth shopping around as often you can find the exact same item for a lower cost from another store. You should check your savings account to see what you can afford before you start looking to ensure that you do not go over budget. Additionally, you can usually find deals and vouchers to take advantage of with many places offering discounts for signing up to a newsletter. You should also be patient as often an item will become discounted if you can wait long enough. A great way to save when thinking about how to update your wardrobe on a budget.
Use a Boot Sale App to Update Your Wardrobe on a Budget
Boot sale apps like Depop and Vinted have become a major trend in the fashion world in recent times. This can be a fantastic way to find affordable second-hand clothes while also reducing your environmental impact. You can even sell the clothes that you no longer wear as a way to raise some extra cash. These apps are ideal if you have expensive taste, as you can find designer items for much more affordable prices.
Check Out Charity Shops
It is never too hard to find a nearby charity shop. You will be amazed at the savings that you can make here when buying clothes. You might even find a real gem as you can often find rare, unique and vintage items in charity shops. This is a great way to update your wardrobe on a budget and support a good cause. It also helps you to minimise environmental damage.
