
Tiredness is one of the most underrated human challenges. That’s because it can be triggered by more than just a lack of sleep. Especially if you get onsets of sudden tiredness during the day. In the UK, one in eight people always feel tired, and in most cases, it has impacted their work and personal lives. There are numerous reasons why people feel so tired and numerous things that can improve it.
Feelings of tiredness have increased tremendously in recent years, so we can say that the stress of modern living and working is definitely a major contributing factor. Even smartphones have an impact on us not getting enough sleep at night due to their brain stimulation and blue light emissions.
In most cases, where it’s not related to a health issue, you yourself can do something to feel better and more energised. It’s important to take action and do something about your current lifestyle because being tired constantly can lead to poor mental health and more sudden accidents – for example, in the car or at work. Change your diet to prevent sudden tiredness during the day
One of the least apparent reasons for tiredness is the need for proper nutrients and a balanced diet. This particularly comes into play if you get onsets of sudden tiredness during the day. Often that ‘slump’ is because of something you’ve eaten or not eaten. A lot of sugar at breakfast or lunch can lead to a sugar crash later on. Similarly, lots of white processed carbs can do the same thing. Aim to eat wholegrains for that slow energy release that will keep you functioning all day long. Also try to cut out caffiene as you end up becoming reliant on it to stay awake. Poor diet can also cause more longer term tiredness issues where you feel tired all the time from things such as vitamin and mineral deficiencies e.g. iron deficiency anaemia. However, you need to be consuming enough nutrients from your food so that your body can be provided with what it needs to function. Exercise regularly to prevent sudden tiredness during the day
It seems counterproductive to exercise when you’re tired, but the truth is that building a habit of exercising frequently will help you feel more energised. That is because, when exercising or even just walking, your body releases endorphins that boost your energy level, which, in the long run, helps you feel less tired.
The best thing to do is to take it easy at first. If you’re not used to workouts and are suddenly in a hiit class, not only will your body greatly struggle, but you’ll also be more prone to accidents. Start with walking, or gentle classes such as yoga or pilates. If you are doing them at home, you can find many online tutorials on how to perform these exercises so you don’t injure yourself. Getting your body moving will help with sudden tiredness during the day.
Besides feeling less tired, exercising has other benefits. These include improved brain health; reduced risk of diseases and strengthened bones and muscles.
Minimise stress
Although stress isn’t risky in healthy doses, sometimes it can reach unhelpful levels and tired out your mind and body. It can really contribute to sudden tiredness during the day. Long term, excessive stress can cause you to develop certain diseases and illnesses, such as heart disease, IBS and depression. Frequently, stress is caused by work. This is why people are not that happy clocking in every day to their jobs. If your workplace also happens to be suffering from disorganisation, dangerous practices or unclear safety procedures, things can be dangerous. When you combine it with tired you, it can result in accidents. If this happens and it’s your work at fault – from putting stress on you or from their practices – you can claim compensation.

When should you go to the doctor?

Therefore, you need to make an appointment with your doctor and try to discover the health problem behind your tiredness. Hidden illnesses may cause this feeling in your body, such as Fibromyalgia, sleep apnoea, thyroid problems.
Fatigue isn’t something anyone needs to feel. Whether that’s sudden tiredness during the day, or constant tiredness. There are ways you can improve it. Either on your own, or with the help of a medical professional.
